5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for on-board sound March 19 2013
By ErikG

My on-bound sound had been generating a bit of static at moderate volumes and this Xonar DG had received good reviews and was reasonably priced.

Installation is about as simple as you'd expect - disable on-board audio in the BIOS, pop out the corresponding backplate on your case and insert the DG. You do have to swap the front audio port headers from your motherboard to the DG too but that's a relatively simple process.

Drivers are quick to install too and the card sounds much better than my on-board, which had been acceptable to my ears other than the crackling. The DG has no such crackling, and headphones in particular (Monoprice's DJ cans are my only trial so far) sound absolutely fantastic. I suppose that is to be expected given that the DG is marketed primarily as a headphone amp.

Only issue that has popped up are a handful of crashes to the desktop from within older games where the audio is stuck in a loop, with restarting being the only option to fix it. They are rare enough to not be much of a concern but a quick peek online suggests that others have this issue too and it's not yet fixed with the newest DG drivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soundcard on a low budget Jan. 23 2013
Verified Purchase
This is far from the best sound card on the market, but if you're still using onboard audio then this will be a huge quality improvement and for the low price of 30$ there's no reason not to. Installation was easy, drivers work perfectly fine on Windows 7 after a bit of fiddling and a few restarts. Has pins for front panel HD audio so I can have my speakers in back and headphones plugged in front and you can switch between both on the fly using the ASUS drivers.

Make sure you have audio equipment that is capable of hearing the improved quality, if you're using really low quality speakers/headphones chances are it won't make a difference.

Basically my verdict is, if you aren't an audiophile (if you are get an 80$+ sound card) and you are still using onboard, this is cheap and the sound quality boost is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product Dec 21 2012

Have major with getting Expensive sounblaster cards to work with Windows 7.The Asus was by far much cheaper, and functionrd perfectly. Was always a loyal Creative customer, but their sound cards are crap when it comes to Windows 7,
where as Asus never lets me down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works okay, but... June 18 2012

Installation was a breeze. The sound is perfect on my Logitech 5.1 speakers. However, I can't get the onboard AC'97 or HD audio outputs to work. Fortunately, my speakers have a volume control box where I can plug in my headphones when I need to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Improvement over onboard. June 15 2014
Verified Purchase
I'd been using onboard HD Audio ever since my old Audigy 2 started acting wonky. Is there a HUGE improvement over onboard? No there isn't, but the bass is more pronounced and the sound is a bit crisper. The one definite improvement though is that there is far less audio interference, most times none at all. That's worth the 30$ in itself. Recommended.

Took a little time to get working right (driver installation issues) but once it was set up, works fine. Very nice to be able to plug in the front PC audio jacks to the card as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good and cheap alternative to on board sound.
It's a cheap but well built sound card. It's a lot better than my onboard audio and the software is pretty good. I couldn't really ask for more from a 25 bucks sound card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like the sound
The sound is very clear comparing to my onboard sound card.
With $10 mail-in rebate, this is a very good deal.

Don't forget to try the uni xonar driver.
