Product Description

From Amazon.com

Movies with "wacky" titles are almost never any good, and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! was intentionally made to be an instant golden turkey. Despite that, and the grade-Z production values, this is a regularly funny film. You need to be a fan of the kind of low-budget horror movie it's spoofing, and you need to be very forgiving of the technical ineptness and frequent clunkers, but it works. The story? Well, tomatoes attack, basically. Jack Riley and the San Diego Chicken are in it, and that genuinely alarming helicopter crash you see in an early scene was a real accident. Seen now, the whole ratty affair brings back agreeable memories of the circa-1978 college-movie/midnight-cinema era, when seeing this film was virtually unavoidable. The sequel, Return of the Killer Tomatoes! (with a young George Clooney), is actually an even funnier film. Director John De Bello would continue to squeeze the Tomatoes franchise for years to come. --Robert Horton

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING!!!, Sep 23 2003
This review is from: Attack..Killer Tomato Coll ed. (DVD)
Fans of the original cut of this movie will want to steer clear. This is the awful director's cut that was released by Buena Vista. There are some scenes from that not in it, but there are some that are. Most prominent and annoying are the sound FX and dubbed voices from that release which completely ruin the movie. Nowhere on the package or DVD itself does it say this is the director's cut but I can assure that is what it is. Releasing the director's cut of this beloved movie is one of the worst decisions ever in DVD history and whoever had the bright idea to do this should be shunned. Teach them a lesson by refusing to buy this edition. If I had known ahead of time this was the director's cut I would have turned my back on this release instead of anticipating it. Now, here I am halfway through the movie and full of rage. Shame upon John Debello, shame.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected for such a dumb premise, Jan 10 2012
This review is from: Attack of ..Killer Tomatoes (DVD)
the movie starts out great with some script comparing the film to hitchcocks 'the birds'. and the laughter continues throughout. I wasnt expecting it to be as clever as it was and it held the same goofy comedy style as 'airplane' and 'im gunna git you sucka'. The characters are good and the its just straight out silly the whole way through, my favorite part was "actually technically tomatoes are considered fags" haha great watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired Lunacy, July 24 2011
This review is from: Attack of ..Killer Tomatoes (DVD)
When I first saw AoKT more than 20 years ago this riff on all B-movie cliches had me convulsed with laughter. So I bought one for a senior friend as a gift. We watched it to our mutual delight with the quasi-serious acting, the mock Musical moments and craftsmanship that went into this incredibly BAD good movie.
