This CD collection of pre-2002 music by Liane Foly introduced me to this amazing voice. Since this CD was released, I've purchased all of her other albums. The 18-song retrospective is probably the best introduction for anyone, but her live performances are also good places to start. Her voice is just as strong and rich on the stage as in the studio, and the arrangements are always top-notch. An early live album, "Lumières" (1995), is a good example and includes a number of songs also on "Au fur et à mesure." A newer live CD, "Une étoile dort" (2005, on two discs), is even better and represents both early and later songs. Any of these three CDs will serve as great introductions to this outstanding voice. Her earlier albums ("The Man I Love" for instance) are more dance and pop oriented), whereas her "middle" period is more jazz oriented ("Les petites notes" and "Acoustique"). Her more recent CDs ("La chanteuse de bal" and "Le gout du desir") are more ballad and pop oriented. Take your pick; you cannot go wrong with any of Liane Foly's music.
