5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant! Feb 3 2006
Format:Audio CD
Well, this review may come a tad bit late, but really , I tend to believe that , The Matthew Good Band was at it's time where the best Canadian & undiscovered talent.
Sadly since the break up some 4 years ago, I still listen to every Matthew Good Band CD, plus Matthew Good's own CD's.
This album by far shows how much they had matured, if you will, from their first album.
This album was also released in many other front cover colours, I happened to get the black, but there is also a grey & white to choose from, if you have a choice albeit.

many seemed dissapointed with the final chapter of the matthew good band; The Audio of Being, which Matt wrote while he could not speak after throat surgery, and recorded while the band was falling apart. This record has some of the greatest and most powerful songs any other record or band could not even hold a candle to. The first track, "man of action", is a solid intro song which really shows how Dave Genn can rock out with his solo at the end. "Carmelina", the first single, is a powerful, haunting track including clever vocals "my filthy mouth" with a unique, almost out of tune solo, and of course, a creepy video. The album slows down from there, but includes some of the best songs they have ever made. Some highlights include "advertising on police cars", "I, the throw away", and "truffle pigs". After these, the album picks up, but in my opinion is the worst part of the album. Shortly after, the best song besides "advertising", "the rat who would be king" truly shows how well Matt can sing, and his lyrics blend so well in the climactic ending of this amazing track. The last two songs, after the second single, "Anti-pop", include "the workers sing a song of mass production" and "sort of a protest song", a great way to end the final MGB album. Great CD for MGB fans, my only complaint is that "all together" was not a secret song at the end. It's neat to listen to "Last of the Ghetto Astronauts" and then some of this album to see how the band evolved into one of Canada's best of all time. Their break-up still brings a tear to my eye! 5 stars without a doubt

5.0 out of 5 stars Going out on top Aug 26 2005
Format:Audio CD
It's a shame that this was their last album. Any hardcore MGB fan such as myself loved this album, and wish they could've done more.
Dave Genn, the great guitar player who plays solos so well, not even the greatest air guitarist can imitate! He kicks off the album opener, "Man of Action," with eerie chords before Rich Priske & Ian Browne blast in with their bass & drums. Lyrically, this track appears to be about Matt's late father ("this world it wore him out").
Rich takes over the next two tracks with powerful bass intros to the first single, "Carmelina", and "Tripoli," which is mostly comprised of Matt's Internet manifestos, as is the eerie look into the future on "Advertising on Police Cars."
Matt gets mellow on the acoustic "I, The Throw Away," and a song that should be the next Strange Days: "Truffle Pigs," which consists of Matt's best vocal tracks.
"Under The Influence" and "Anti-pop" are two of my favourite songs on the album, the latter of which will be a huge single for MGB. A very catchy song with lots of "do-do-do's" and kids chanting "let's get this party started!" "Under The Influence" is a pounding, anthemic tune where Matt reminisces on his youth (Just wanna be like we used to").
"The Workers Sing A Song Of Mass Production" is another great example of musicianship combined with great lyrics. Dave, with his piercing guitar intro before Rich & Ian bring in the rhythm section, not to mention great lyrics from Matt, like "life's a dirty business, so be a prick and do it while the world's awake."
