As my first pair of higher end headphones, I am very impressed with this product. They look great, they are very comfortable, and the sound quality is fantastic.
The box contains the headphones themselves, along with a screw-on 1/4 inch adapter and a leather carrying bag. The headphones are quite aesthetically pleasing, appearing very professional while still maintaining a sense of style, which I like very much. They are made of mostly plastic (though it feels very durable and high quality), with some leather material on the ear and head padding. The headphones are a little bit heavy to wear, but it's nothing serious and are easy to adjust to over time. They were also quite tight to my head upon first use, but after a couple hours of use, they loosened up and become more comfortable. Overall, they are quite comfortable. However, because of their closed earcup nature, your ears may become sweaty after prolonged use in a moderately warm area. Also of note, there are two versions of these headphones - a straight cord and a coiled cord. This is the COILED CORD version, which Amazon.ca does not state directly. I prefer the coiled over the straight, because the straight cable is very long and can tangle easily. The coiled version is much shorter (and cooler looking in my opinion), while still allowing for extra length if you need it.
I found the sound quality to be stellar right out of the box. Being studio monitor headphones, they produce a neutral, but very accurate and precise sound. This makes them great for monitoring/mixing music, but they are also fantastic for listening to music as well.Read more ›

-Sound is very neutral(which is a good thing) -It puts off a decent bass without overpowering the medium and trebles like Beats do. -Best headphone under 200$ by far. -However my particular headset eventually start to destort, and after a closer look i found that there was a dent in the left speaker. Talked with customer support, and i wasnt able to return it, but i was able to buy a separate speaker to reinstall for 30$. now it sounds great when i just bought it. -Incase you didnt pick this up, you can easily replace the speakers. All you got to do is re-solder.

I have these and the Sennheiser HD518s. I'm really happy with the 518s, but they were too leaky to use in my office. The ATH-M50's sound stage is not as large, but other than that their sound is amazing. They're probably even a bit clearer in the mids than the 518's.
Because they're closed, they don't leak sound; however, it also makes for a lot tighter of a fit. The 518s are more comfy for sure. I recommend them if you need a nice over-ear, closed pair of cans. If you don't mind open headphones (sounds leaks in and out) then I would recommend the HD 518s.

This headset has ruined my life. Let me tell you my story.
I ordered this headset after recommendations by friends and having tried it before myself.
The first odd thing was that it arrived the day after it was order, instead of the 6+ business days that were expected. Good thing, right? Just wait and see.
As I unboxed it and listened to the entire discography of Pink Floyd in FLAC, I had violent orgasms that could not be surpressed. Worse, I couldn't stop listening to the crystalline sound that came from the headset. It was like a drug.
A few days in Brazil and $300,000 later, and I now had 5 pairs of ears along with some nerve re-wiring. Naturally, I bought the 4 headsets that my friends had - I could not wait for even a single shipping day - and I simultaneously played in every ear my entire library.
Today I am fed by a machine as I am unable to perform basic tasks that would require me to remove my headsets.
100% recommended.

Back when I didn't know any better I had Dre's studio beats. Then I got these, and just for fun I compared the two (plugged one on my phone and the other on another phone playing the same song at the same time and quickly swapped back and forth).
These give a much more crisp sound and the bass is great. I originally had an app to boost the bass for music, but had to turn it off since these do an even better job of it. Very satisfied. Best under $200 headset for sure.

I'm no expert so I don't have anything to say re: comparison to other headphones (besides avg cheap earbuds...which will never sound the same again once you've used the m50's)
The quality of these are great. I've had these a little over 6 months and they're still as new. The sound they produce is very clear! As for the complaints that these don't have enough bass, the output depends on what you're using them to listen to. ime it's not really worth having high quality headphones like these if you're just using them to listen to an ipod etc. They still sound great with an ipod though! Just sound even better with a laptop etc.
They are a bit bulky but have great durability despite being mostly plastic. The fit is nice and snug even for someone with a smaller head.
The M50's aren't exactly ugly, in my opinion, but aesthetically, they really can't compare to bose or beats. BUT for ~$140, I don't have any room to complain. These are GREAT. Buy them, you won't regret it.
If these ever wear out I would happily repurchase.
