I have a set of Sennheiser HD439s that I purchased a number of months ago. It was the first time that I had ever spent a significant amount of money on a set of headphones. They were pretty good, as you would expect. The first time I put them on it was clear that I was listening to a higher class of device, far exceeding cans or earbuds that I have purchased in the past.

These headphones blow them out of the water.

The ATH-M50s stick to your head, holding in every note and making sure that you don't miss a thing. If bass is important, it's here, and these cans can handle anything you throw at them. Black metal, drone, hip-hop, breakcore, classical, psychedelic, everything sounds good here.

There's a reason why these headphones are recommended by every major audiophile site on the internet. Do yourself a favour and give them a try.

After researching various options for the last few months I decided to get the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 due to various pieces of information around the internet. Yhey are rather flat and as a result some tweaking may need to be done to get them to your liking however the main reason I picked this is due to the clarity in the mid / highs as a result of the standard bass level which is the opposite of what you would fine in as an example a beats product which typically have decent lows, huge bass (due to the built in equalizer favoring it) and below average mid / highs.

TLDR: I was blown away after upgrading from a set of Siberia V2's and would highly recommend them to anyone looking into getting this product. They are rather low in terms of bass output when compared to bass heavy alternatives such as the Razer Electra or anything Beats related but as a result everything else seems clearer and easier to recognize / distinguish.

Background
I've been listening to music all my life like many people, I also fall into the gamer group of individuals which has commonly resulted in purchases from Logitech, SteelSeries and Razer. In addition to that I commonly listen to anything I enjoy ranging from instrumental / classical to electronic music but most specifically Trance, Drum and Bass, Rock and Acoustic. Given the background I have with music and my priorities as a gamer I have typically chosen products based on comfort and features specific to gaming (integrated microphones, low weight, comfort for extended periods of time). Many of my choices I made under the assumption that I was getting an excellent audio experience which has changed after this recent purchase.

Shipping was ultra fast, a day earlier than expected (one day instead of two).

The product in itself is great, comfy, very good sound, looks very well built, coiled cable.

Ears can get a little sweaty, but it's the case with ALL closed headphones like this one.

These headphones are amazing indeed ! Very rich bass and really nice quality overall , sound and design ! Nothing too flashy like some other headphones out there , which I like. Everything on the headphones feels secure and well made . Ear cushions are very Comfortable for long listing sessions . I mainly use these for Movies , tv shows and listening to music ; as I can't be loud in my apartment , I pretty much use them at all times , they are very good for movies and tv shows with lots of high energy sounds going on , but where they really shine is with music , At work i listen to my music though a small stereo while working and it sounds a lot different then the m50 , with the m50 I've heard sounds in music I've never heard before ! Highly recommended ! 5 out of 5 stars !

While I must agree with what most of the reviews have said about these, I have been finding that long listening sessions can become uncomfortable because the ear cushions become warm. I've found my ears sweat after some time because of the lack of breathability.
I have not been disappointed with the sound quality at all though, these are incredible.

Good balanced headphones with amazing build quality. Hearing things in songs that I've never heard before. Also comfortable while wearing glasses.

I was sampling a Beats Studio in a large chain store. The salesman and I began to discuss headphones and he turns to me and says, "Don't waste your time. We don't sell them, but the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 has a much better sound." I could not overlook his recommendation. My first impression was that the M50 is heavier and not as comfortable as the Studio. Ordering from Amazon, I saved a few dollars with the coiled cable. The straight cable would have been better. They took a few weeks to break in. The sound is clear, balanced and very listenable. People keep saying the sound is "neutral" but, trust me, compared to my AKG K550 (which really is non-bass biased) there is plenty of bass. Certain headphones seem to be best engineered for certain songs, and I still prefer to use the Sony MDR XB600 when I play Aha. But in general, I would agree the M50 offers a very enjoyable listening experience.

Replaced a pair of Sony HDR and they are much better. Clear sound, no distortion,, easy to store since they fold. Gold plated connector + adapter. All in all great headphones
