ABSOLTELY STUNNING - That's how you sum up this book in which a great deal of love and care was given by the authors. In this case Audrey Hepburn's long time companion Rob Wolders, and her two sons Sean and Luca together went through thousands upon thousands of photographs of the former star. They settled on 100 of them that told a story, and was unique.
Each one of them shows Audrey as the unique human being that she was. Over a 40 year period you see the movie star, the humanitarian, and the mother. In her own words she lived a fairy tale existence. There's an intensity here that is way beyond that portrayed on the screen.
The greatest photographers in the world for a period of two generations tried to capture the star in all her different moods. The emotions, the feelings, it's all here, many of which are in black and white, but others in glorious colors. Her son Luca is an accomplished graphic artist, and it shows in the images selection. Luca was concerned that each picture must by itself tell a story, her story, and they certainly do.
A Few Examples
Look at the first color photograph on page 67. The face is devastating. It takes your breath away. It is from the 1965 movie, "How to Steal a Million." On page 136 you have what is called a makeup face. Whenever a movie is done, they do the makeup on the star, and then take the best picture they can. In this case the movie was Sabrina, and the picture is magnificent. You must see it to believe it.
CONCLUSION:
You open this book and the inside cover is a luscious pink, and the next page, and the next page. It was her favorite color. You open to the back and there is a waxed envelope. In the envelope is a beautiful picture of the star. It is a stand alone. You can remove it and hang it on a wall.

The entire book has been carefully thought out. If you are a big fan of Audrey Hepburn, then this is the book for you. Do not hesitate; it is a literary work that has been extraordinarily well done, and thank you for reading this review.

The Fair Lady, Dec 14 2010

This graceful coffee table book does justice to Audrey Hepburn. The photographs were chosen by her 2 sons and her partner, each is a full page, some in black and white, some in colour. They give the name of the photographer and the year, but are not in chronological order.
It would have been interesting to see her growth and maturation if they would have put them in chronological order and despite some opinions to the contrary about letting photographs speak for themselves; I would prefer to have information concerning something about the photos. This is done at the end of the book, but leads to much page turning back and forth and is distracting if you do want this information.
There is a forward by Audrey's son Sean and some information at the end about the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund. There are also bios on the authors. The book is done well, good printing and has a ribbon for place keeping.
Those who are fans of Audrey Hepburn would indeed enjoy this book.
