Product Description

Product Description

The Josh Groban phenomenon continues with Awake, his third studio album. Both of the extraordinary singer's first two studio discs have been certified five times platinum, with his most recent, 2003's Closer, charting #1 pop. For Grobanites, his uplifting music rises ever higher on Awake. Awake's 13 new songs show off the Grammyr-nominated Groban's remendous growth as a vocalist, producer and songwriter. His hands-on approach in the creative process of Awake is reflected in several Groban-penned and -produced songs, along with musical contributions from Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Dave Matthews, Glen Ballard, Eric Mouquet, John Ondrasik Vandrasak (Five for Fighting), Marius DeVries, David Foster and Herbie Hancock.

Josh Groban is making it hard for anybody who can't say "classical crossover" without smirking to maintain an acceptable level of snobbery. Awake, his third studio disc and arguably his most personal--he co-wrote four tracks and favors his native English over Italian--boasts as many bold names as any tricked-out hip-hop disc: Dave Matthews, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Imogen Heap, and Herbie Hancock contribute in various capacities, and a slew of behind-the-scenes collaborators best known for their work in mainstream pop circles deepen the dimensions of a style widely considered claustrophobic. For all the studio doors that got opened to create Awake, though, Groban's signature sound never once slipped out to take the air; "the voice"--that hypnotic, spun-silk wonder of an instrument--is as concentrated as ever, and Awake, in addition to showing off its many splendors, serves as a vehicle for parading its versatility around. While "Un Giorno Per Noi," the deeply romantic theme to the 1968 film Romeo E Giulietta, delivers the Groban that fueled the sale of 16 million previous discs to soft-hearted fans, "Machine," with Hancock, gives up a new form of funk: dignified, classy, and surprisingly unstiff. --Tammy La Gorce

I have been a devout Josh Groban fan from day one, but this new album pushes my obsession to new heights. The songs on Awake are truly awe-inspiring and speak to the heart. "Mai", "February Song", "So She Dances", and the Romeo and Juliet theme are among his best. This is music that one can listen to over and over, never tiring of it's complex beauty and emotion. Groban continues to further explore his amazing range and vocal techniques. If you love gorgeous medodies and can appreicate a truly gifted voice, Awake is a must-buy. The music will move your soul.

Put this beautiful album in your CD player, sit back, and revel in the beautiful songs and even more beautiful voice of Josh Groban. This CD is a bit of a departure for Josh....an exploration of his musical possibilities. While still singing in several languages and wrapping his velvet voice around some romantic ballads, he ventures further afield, collaborating with the likes of Imogen Heap, Herbie Hancock, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo to produce some very interesting work. The fabulous "Now or Never" and "February Song" will break your heart while "You Are Loved" will soothe and inspire and "Machine" will have you dancing in the aisles. The beautiful baritone is still there but with a greater range....right up there to falsetto! This album will be a joy to Josh's present fans and should also bring him many new ones!

The previous review says it all so I will just say that this is his best CD ever and since he started with perfection....His voice is heavenly and it is only improving with maturity. I am not sure I would "dance" to the song Machine but it is an interesting experiment. But the best songs are those in which his classical voice is employed to its fullest. Some of them moved me to tears. A must have for all Grobanites.

His confidence as a person comes through in the song choices and style of singing... it is hard to ignore this big talent... it is different yet the same as his peers - somehow though he makes every note ad lyrical emphasis richer and better... a music powerhouse- he is undeniably great. Near perfect- he is as near as you can be, the Complete Vocal Technician.

This is my favorite album... but in reality it is all a matter of taste.
