It's the least sectarian approach I've seen, thus it appeals to the widest section of readers. Unlike Tibetan, Zen, and Middle Eastern teachings, it isn't colored by centuries of priestly tradition. Yet it "goes back to the source"--and its very bedrock purity makes it "user-friendly" to Western sensibilities.
It's very practical, because it's based on how our bodies are made. Paramhansa Yogananda said, "At the inner end of the nervous system, the mind, interiorized, communes with the soul." This book teaches the art and science of patiently calming the breath and mind so that we can use our own nervous system to commune with the healing inner peace and joy. For my money, you won't find a better guide. (I've meditated for 30 years, and I learn something new from this book every time I open it.)
You can tell that Mr. Walters writing is from his own experience on the spiritual path. To write this book, he is drawing from his own intutive understanding derived from 50 years of living a deeply spirutual life.
