Good album -- but not great...,
By Laura Antonella (Pomona, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Away From The Sun (Audio CD)
This was a good album -- I bought it for Here Without You and When I'm Gone. I happen to be a big fan of this band's acoustic sound -- particularly Here Without You. They're much better that way. The songs are considerably jumbled and poorly mixed with only a few exceptions. Use your best judgment. If you're heard them before and you like them, get it. Don't buy it for just a couple of songs.

Before I got this cd, I had heard some of the singles played on the radio and I thought it was worth buying. After I had listened to it, I was both enthralled and dissapointed. Many of the songs are good overplayed radio hits, but then there are a few songs that make you question if this band is going anywhere. When I'm Gone- Great song, way overplayed though- its one of those openers that lead you to believe that the whole album is going to be like it Away from the Sun- Perhaps the best song on the entire album; it shows where their talent lies even though it is one of the slower ones on the cd The Road I'm on- Another overplayed radio tune- still a good song, but there seems to be something missing Ticket to Heaven- Another compeditor for the best 3 Doors Down song, awesome lyrics Running out of Days- The first slight dissapointment on the album. If it weren't for a few other songs, this would have the most damage. Sadly, it isn't. Here without You- THE ABSOLUTE WORST SONG done by 3 Doors Down- It reminds me of one of those sappy love songs sung as if the singer was constipated and trying to hold a fake smile. It's just not good rock. I still don't understand why so many people think this is a classic... I feel You- Helps you recover from its predicessor, but still not up to par with the good songs on the previous parts of the cd Dangerous Game- Gets us back into the groove of the band we know- catchy lyrics Changes- another debatable song- it has the sound for a great, but the lyrics make you wonder Going Down in Flames- Just your ordinary song- not great, but not bad either Sarah Yellin'- Great sound and has lyrics that express true emotion- one of the geats This Time(the extra track)- Doesn't start for 30 seconds (isn't that origional)- But even though it is slow like away from the sun, it is still awesome; the lyrics are pretty good too All in all, this is just an average cd; it has its goods, its bads(its really bads) and its greats, so you can't complain too much, I would still get the cd. The band is awesome, but they just need to do a little proofing before releasing an album.
