Product Description

Humidity is everywhere: in your closets, under your kitchen sink, in your safes, boats, RVs, bathrooms, and more. When you have too much humidity, the effects can be more than a nightmare

Ideal for Closets
Humidity often finds a home in closets. Don't let it! Simply put it in your closet and don't give humidity a chance to seep into your garments and create odors.

Keep Humidity Out of the Bathroom
Constant showers and running water are all sources for excess humidity to start their party. This dehumidifier will help remove the moisture before it can even think about it.

Rain...Rain go away
We have all been there before. That moment when you look outside and realize the your windows are down and its raining. You get outside and roll them up, and think, Its not that bad...Until the next day and it smells like Mold and Mildew had a party in your car. Don't let mold and Mildew have a party in your car. This dehumidifier will remove the moisture before the party can even get started.

Great for Washing Machines
It's very common for front load washers to have a less than desirable odor associated with them due to lack of air circulation and humidity that gets trapped inside the machine and its hoses. You may have even tried leaving the door open to correct the problem, but that pesky odor is still there. Not to worry, this product has you covered. Simply place the BTMD01 in the washer after your laundry is done and in between washes and it will help remove the moisture that creates the odors. All with the door closed.

1. Don't put it together with the medical products
2. The moisture absorbing speed is not the same in different environments, humidity and seasons, also have influence on the speed of the indicator color changing.

Does what is described. I am using one inside of an airtight box (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007V4IWIU) to maintain a low-humidity environment for moisture-sensitive supplements, and it appears to easily maintain the relative humidity below 30% as measured by two hygrometers (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00CERHB36 and http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0006TIEXK). I have been using it for weeks and have only needed to recharge it once, but in an OPEN, HIGH-humidity environment, and especially as airflow increases, I expect it could be saturated quickly.

When the unit is plugged in and "recharging"/drying, the silica pellets (seen through the window) did not transition uniformly from green back to orange. Perhaps due to the increased temperature, some of the silica pellets take on unusual colours (purple?). However, after the unit was plugged in for several hours and then unplugged, the pellets soon equilibrated to a uniform orange (="dry").

It is made of rather sturdy plastic. I do not fear breaking it in the near future.

when I compare it with the leading brand... May 13 2014

I am a photography fan and have some cameras and lenses that I carry in big lowepro camera bags. Humidity might be a problem when storing delicate items and lead to fungi outgrow so all photographers have a way of lowering humidity around their devices. I used to use slica gel packs but when you use those you never know when they get saturated and it is not very easy to replenish them. (I tried the microwave method to get the moisture out and one of the packs caught flame... not safe, not reliable) So, you either will constantly change the slica gel packs or buy an equipment like this. The leading mini dehumidifier in the market is Eva-Dry with over 550 reviews in amazon and there is this model with no reviews at all. Although I generally like to go with the flow and buy already tested ones due to the huge price difference I decided to give this one a chance. I have received it and start using it recently. So here is my side by side comparison and first impressions.

Dimensions : Eva-Dry is 6.2 x 1.2 x 4.8 inches and weighs 1 lb while Bestek is 6.29 X 1.37 X 3.14 inches and weighs 0.92 lb So with very minor differences, I can say they have similar sizes.

Capacity: Eva-Dry can absorb 4-6 oz water while Bestek absorbs 5.1 oz (These numbers come from their product information but I am sure they are rough estimates) So both are similar in terms of capacity as well.

Electrical drying time: Both products claim that bead drying takes 12-15 hours depending on the humidity of the surrounding etc. and both claim up to 10 years of product life So no change as well.

Operation and general appearance: Basically both are equivalents of big slica gel packs. They both change color when saturated and dry again by plugging in. So they have very basic operations, we are not comparing computer CPU or mother boards here, I am sure they both do this basic stuff pretty well. (I have not saturated them yet so I will update about my actual drying experience once I do it)

I have not seen the eva-dry model but bestek is hard plastic and does look pretty well built and durable and fits well into one of the lens sections of a big camera bag. Although both items claim that they can be used in bathrooms or big cabinets etc. I would not put my expectations that high. Like slica gels packs these should work best in small closed areas like chests, safes and storage bags. For my use, which is in a back pack size bag, I think both items could very well do the job.

Now comes the selling point...

Price: as of may 2014 Eva-Dry is $19.95 and Bestek is $10.99. So the leading brand is almost twice expensive . As I said these are simple devices not complicated electronics and since they are approximately equal in many physical parameters, I did not want to pay double and give this one a chance. So far I am happy with the purchase, but I will let you know if things change

UPDATE 1: It took a month until the beads turned green (saturated with humidity) in a regular sized back pack. The pack was closed all the time and external humidity was around 50% during that season.

UPDATE 2: It took a 30 hours of continuous plugged in drying period until they got orange again. During the drying period external humidity was around 60% which might have increased the length of drying. The apparatus sucks up 9.2 watts while plugged in. So one drying cycle costs less than 40 cents.

Does what it's supposed to, but slow recharge and not great capacity. Sept. 13 2014

Decent mini dehumidifier. The recharging effect is a bit slow (requires almost 20 hours to recharge), and it doesn't absorb that much. Otherwise, it's great for a small storage space like a drawer.

Great small Dehumidifier for very small rooms or safes. Sept. 24 2014

Small but effective. This is much better than the cup and drying crystals we used in our safe in the past.

We have set a reminder for every couple months to remove it and plug it in to dry out the beads.

NOTE: The case does get rather warm (almost hot) when it is plugged in.
A good size for a closet Nov. 18 2014

A good size for a closet. I use it in my bedroom closet and another in the bathroom cabinet. They turn blue (the indicator) very quickly and I'm recharging them quite often (every few weeks). The take at least 24 hours to dry out, though, so they aren't quick to "recharge". Still, it beats having buckets of crystals and they seem to be doing the job.
