this unit is easy to use and to adjust for a variety of jobs, and for different types of wood. being oil-less it does not deposit oil on raw wood which would make priming and painting difficult.

Sturdy Consistent Nailer June 22 2009

I got this nail gun together with the 18 Ga nail gun for an exterior trim project. This gun has the sturdier gauge nails, but I was not as impressed with the convenience of the loading mechanism. Additionally when it got down to about 5 nails it would no longer shoot as the spring mechanism that pressed the nails forward (think like a desk stapler) would slightly tilt the nails. It didn't jamb, but you would have to load additional nails to keep going. Both products have their place and this is still an excellent quality nail gun, I would recommend it for exterior trim work or heavier interior work.

Don't buy Dec 27 2012
By DOCdoc - Published on Amazon.com
I have purchased two of these nailers (along with a compressor and brad nailer in a combination pack). I used it to install doors, trim and baseboard. On both occasions, I followed the manual when it comes to preventive maintainence. In both cases, this nailer's air seal failed within the first several hours of work & the tool became completely unusable. Menard's replaced the unit the first time, and apparently will on the second. It is unfortunate that the craftsmanship of the product is so shotty (spelling error?) as the compressor seems to work well, and is easy to transport.

Nice nailer May 16 2011

My old nailer finally bit the dust, so I opted for this one. I was a bit sceptical on the "oil less" but tried it any way. Seems to work just fine, no jams and drives just the way you would want it to. I'm not a heavy user, but use it a few times a month, so can't say how it would be in everyday use.

Well made tool; gets the job done. Jan. 25 2012

I purchased this tool to install the T&G pine on the ceiling in my new home in Alaska. The price was fair; better than anything I could find locally. The other reviews I found accurate and helpful. I have only used 2.5" 16 gauge brad nails and I have had no major issues' gun sinks the nail no problem. Since purchasing I have shot a box (1000 nails) without issue. The pencil sharpener works great. The tool certainly is light for its overall size and I was happy with the case it came in; it seems well made for a plastic tool case.

About 60% of the time I shoot a nail; a spark is created at the tip of the gun...weird. Certainly NOT an intrinsically safe tool. I have a 18 guage gun (same type) it does the same thing. The adjustment on the tool that allows you to set the depth of the nail doesn't seem to have the greatest effect on the actual distance the nail is driven; maybe a difference of 4-5 mm or so; but enough to help out usually. I would purchase this again and recommend it to others.

Returning this asap July 12 2013
By StraightShooter - Published on Amazon.com
Picked this up from a local big-box hardware store for a project. I'm rather disappointed and will be returning it.

My biggest gripe is that the nail depth adjustment doesn't do anything. I'm driving nails into soft-wood (yellow pine mostly) and even on the lowest pressure setting and the least drive-depth it's still over-driving the nail so bad that I can't see the head of the nail. This really came to head (pun intended) when trying to nail some 1/8" hard-board on the back of a book-shelf. It was driving the nails 100% through the hardboard and burying them deep into the shelves. That's a problem, a BIG problem. The only way I could keep the nails from over-driving was to back the pressure down to 60 psi, have a very light hand to allow the gun to recoil back a bit more, and use the longest nails I had (2 1/2"). The problem in doing that was that the piston doesn't reset at 60 psi so I found myself dry-firing a lot, and 2 1/2" nails are overkill and a greater risk of shooting out the side (of which many did).

The other main problem is that the push-safety sticks. So I push the nail gun up against my work-piece, drive a nail, then pull it away from the work-piece and I can fire a nail off into the air just by bumping the trigger. That is a major safety concern. I had to manually reset the safety mechanism after driving each nail...

The nice things about this nail-gun, like anti-dryfire, easy loading, selectable bump/sequential firing can all be found on other, better quality guns. After doing extensive research I've settled on the Dewalt 51256K or the Senco FinishPro32.
