Book Description

April 4 2006
Jenny McCarthy’s hilarious, no-holds-barred personality has made her an instantly recognizable TV personality and a bestselling author. In Baby Laughs she examines the full range of challenges that new mothers face, including:
* The humiliations of postnatal “numbing spray,” Tucks medicated pads, and adult diapers; jelly belly, balding, and gum disease; and becoming a “five-foot puke rag” for the baby
* Heart-stopping terrors, such as baby manicures, breathing checks, and burp failures
* Inadequacies, such as lullaby illiteracy and the need for a “heavy rotation” of toys, videos, and mobiles
* Daddy antics, such as infant wrestling, home-movie mania, sleeping like a log, and expecting sex
* Dueling grandmas, germ-ridden guests, Olympic-class competitive mommies, anorexic pets— and much more.

Mothers and fathers will find much-needed relief and insight in this sometimes touching, sometimes gritty, but always perceptive and outrageously funny account of what it truly means to have your very own small bundle of joy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, funny. May 7 2013

I enjoyed this book, but didn't find it as funny as the first - Belly Laughs. Still a few good chapters new moms can relate to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love Jenny Nov. 14 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
A huge fan of Jenny, I've read both of her previous books, and was looking forward to her third - Baby Laughs. I'll be honest, it wasn't as good as Belly Laughs but quite frankly, it'd be hard to find anything funnier or more relatable than Belly Laughs. Basically, it is a good, quick read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother Aug. 6 2005

I didn't find this book very well written. The stories weren't all that funny and in fact I didn't finish the book. I hadn't read Belly Laughs and picked this one up instead after my son was born. I finally got around to reading it after 6 months. You can read it in a day. Not a book I would recommend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first May 24 2005
By Sarah
Format:Hardcover
I read Jenny's first book, Belly Laughs, while pregnant with my first baby, and literally laughed so hard I cried. My husband read it and enjoyed it too, and he's not a reader at all. Every pregnant woman I loaned Belly Laughs to loved it.
So when Baby Laughs came out, I couldn't wait to read it. Unfortunately, it's just not as good as the first book. While the tone is similar, the material and stories just aren't as funny this time around. Not enough sleep while writing this one maybe? If she writes another book about raising toddlers I'll still buy it - I can imagine what fun she'll have with the stories toddlers give you!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Honest Perspective May 14 2005
Format:Hardcover
With each chapter, I found myself laughing and nodding. I too was going through those same stages and even wished that someone had clued me in on some of the changes that I would be experiencing. I guess some topics are "taboo", but her honest approach, was refreshing and most welcome. All things are better left "said". No secrets, no surprises.
McCarthy's journal-like approach to writing is easy to follow and makes this book a quick read. I consider this book to be a good follow-up to other more technical books on pregnancy. Her topics, you won't "expect" to find in other books.
