Debbie Gibson never recorded anything as sexy as Britney Spears's white-funk smoker "...Baby One More Time." Unfortunately, neither does the 17-year-old Spears's debut album contain anything else that remotely approaches that instant hit single. A few of the disc's cuts are pleasantly catchy, but too much of its space is given over to icky ballads ("E-Mail My Heart"?) and other unconvincing moves such as the dancehall-lite "Soda Pop." --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars The Making of a Pop Icon Jan. 16 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this album for the first time (used for only a penny :P) And it is fantastic! Its just Pop magic! From the classic hits Baby One More Time, You Drive Me Crazy, Sometimes, Born To Make You Happy there are some other stand out tracks like Soda Pop, I WIll Be There, Deep in my Heart and I Will Still Love You. Pure pop music magic! This album set the stage for one of the greatest artist in pop music history! A must have for any pop fans, who not only love Britney Spears but want a little guilty pleasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Britney: The Debut of a Global Phenomenom July 6 2004
Format:Audio CD
Britney Spears debuted in 1998 with her deliciously bittersweet single "...Baby One More Time," which skyrocketed to the top of the charts and made her one of the biggest singing sensations in decades. Her debut album of the same title hit charts on January 12, 1999, and took the world by storm, selling (currently) somewhat near 26 million copies. There's no doubt why ...Baby One More Time became such a huge success. Being the first successful female in the teen pop market of the late '90s, Miss Spears was the epitome of the perfect girl-next-door. Her sexy Catholic schoolgirl outfit worn in her first video definitely helped her career, but it was her distinctive throaty vocals and temptuous pop songs that made her a global phenomenom, and the world's most famous female. Though not a consistent release (her Oops!...I Did It Again and In the Zone albums contain more hit-material) ...Baby One More Time is still a must-buy for any pop music listener.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...Baby One More Time rocks! July 4 2004
Format:Audio CD
Britney Spears debuted onto the pop charts in 1998 with her breakout hit "...Baby One More Time," a No. 1 chart-breaking hit and Grammy nominee. Her first album of the same name is gorgeous pop fun and came out when I was in 8th grade in January 1999. ...Baby One More Time should've won Album of the Year at the Grammys and Miss Spears should've won Best New Artist. Favorite hits are "...Baby One More Time," "Drive Me Crazy," "Sometimes," "Born to Make You Happy," "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart," "I Will Be There," and, well, every song excluding track "Email My Heart." This album is one of the most famous and best-selling of the modern era and you've got to admit, Britney Spears is the bomb!

1.0 out of 5 stars Thanks but no thanks, Britney April 7 2003
Format:Audio CD
No, bubblegum pop is not my thing, I am sorry. It is clear that Britney's publicity has not actually come from her talant but from her sexy (non existent) clothing. It is hard to believe that people could actually call this MUSIC. The lyrics are unoriginal, her voice has nothing to it that I would consider amazing, and the album altogether is just cheezy. Buy this only if you enjoy listening to this ..... Though I would highly recommend REAL music like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Elvis Costello.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pointless... Oct. 26 2002
Format:Audio CD
Well, I do give her credit for trying as hard as she did to "get where she is today" but I honestly don't see much in her as a performer, and this was an album she did when her voice was actually almost good.
The Swedish production is what 'saves' it, but the material...and Britney...is just rather...well..obnoxious and unsatisfactory.
It did have it's memorable songs.
baby One More Time--The first song is a good solid, career-boosting pop song that actually can be fun to listen to, but quickly wears out it's appeal...but then is enjoyable again after you stop listening for a while.
You Drive Me Crazy--I actually liked this song...but the single version, the Stop remix was far better.
Soda Pop--I don't get why people don't like this. It's probably the best song on the album. Quite fun and bouncy and kind of reggae-ish, but more dancehall-like. I love this song!!;-)
Born To Make You Happy--Another of the mroe lastingly good and memorable songs.
I Will Be There--Sounds a little like Natalie Imbruglia's Torn in certain parts...a genuinely good song.
The Beat Goes On--This actually was a good song. More bouncy and fun than many of the others.
The other songs...well...let's just say they're like artificial sweetener gone wrong...
In the end, it's all just annoying teen-pop with nothing much to say, and a slightly obnoxious attitude/bent/voice.
No one need waste their time buying this minor album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Britney: 30 Mill. More Times June 26 2004
Format:Audio CD
The 97-99 stage of music seemed unstop-able with pop music bands like The Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys, & NSYNC. But, one young girl by the name of Britney Spears unleashed one of the most popular albums of our time.
1.) ...Baby One More Time - 1st Single
Chart Stats: US - #1 / UK - #1
Review: You werent anyone if you didnt like this song. 'BOMT' has to be one of the best (if not the best) pop songs ever. Britney has the sex appeal and the preformance level that made this one of the biggest songs ever.
2.) (You Drive Me) Crazy
Review: Also a great pop song. Very catchy just like 'BOMT' but also different.
3.) Sometimes - 2nd Single
Chart Stats: US - #21 / UK - #3
Review: A good slow song. Also a very good video. A good follow-up to 'BOMT'
4.) Soda Pop
Review: Not as hit-worthy. Very soulful and pop-ish.
5.) Born To Make You Happy - 4th Single (UK)
Chart Stats: UK - #1
Review: This song shows up 'Soda Pop'. Scoring her 2nd #1 in the UK. The lyrics are great and if you ever catch the video then watch it.
6.) From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart - 4th Single (US)
Chart Stats: US - #14
Review: This is one of my favorite Britney songs. Its a ballad and a very good one.
7.) I Will Be There
Review: I love this song. The Hook is amazing.
8.) I Will Still Love You (Duet With Don Phillip)
Review: Ok song. Not the best.
9.) Thinkin' About You
Review: Very bubblegummy / teen pop.
10.) E-Mail My Heart
Review: This is the best ballad on the album in my opinion. Ive always loved this song.
11.) The Beat Goes On
Review: This is a cover of Cher's song. It's good but, not the best on the album.
