Babyshambles - "Up The Shambles", Feb 3 2008
Ce commentaire est de: Babyshambles: Up the Shambles - Live in Manchester (DVD)
When it comes to geography, we're only across the ocean from the United Kingdom. When it comes to music, we're worlds apart. Over there Biffy Clyro, Kate Nash, Arctic Monkeys, Runrig and Amy MacDonald are huge. Over here, the usual reaction would be "who?" Babyshambles falls into that category too, although a lot of people have heard of Pete Doherty, whose escapades at times would make Britney Spears look like a good stay at home mom! Pete rose to fame, or infamy, as it may be, as a vocalist/guitar player for The Libertines, a U.K. garage rock revival band. After a while Pete's shenanigans and substance abuse became too much for the group and they banned Pete from playing with them until he cleaned his act up. Pete had informally formed Babyshambles whilst still a member of The Libertines. He continued with that band name. The Libertines broke up in 2004.
This DVD is pretty raw and harkens back to the early days of punk with it's almost cinema verite like approach. The concert was recorded at the famous Manchester Ritz club. Babyshambles cracked the U.K. Top 10 charts a number of times in the past few years with their post-punk/indie-rock style songs, some of which are included here; "Albion" is fantastic in it's romantic simplicity and "F*ck Forever" is brutally frank and raw. The majority of the songs captured live here are either off the band's first album, are Libertines tracks or were previously unreleased.
Bonus material includes Pete doing acoustic versions of The Libertines songs "Time For Heroes" and "Can't Stand Me Now" as well as Babyshambles performing their namesake song.
As is mentioned above, this DVD is rough and raw but if you are a fan of post-punk, indie rock or U.K. garage revival, you'll like this DVD. An underlying current runs throughout the material presented here, a strong similarity to and influence by The Clash. Babyshambles even released "Janie Jones" in October of 2006. Overall, this DVD is well worth adding to your collection.
