5.0 out of 5 stars GET THIS BOOK!!!!!, Jun 25 2003

This review is from: Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back and Neck Pain Relief (Paperback)
Someone with serious back problems was good enough to recommend this book on his web site. I didn't have serious back problems but have poor posture and related problems: tilted pelvis the main bugaboo.

Trying to correct this problem for the last umpteen years I've used heel lifts, chiropractic adjustments, orthotics; visited a myriad of specialists--name it, I've seen 'em.

Nothing comes close to this book's (yoga) exercises in providing lasting benefits.

This woman -- Dr. Shatz -- should get a fee for each and every one of us she treats through her book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to back health and treatment, Aug 1 2003

This review is from: Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back and Neck Pain Relief (Paperback)
This is an excellent guide to understanding and treating (and preventing) a variety of common back and neck ailments. Three things make this book great: 1. Its accessibility - the explanations are simple and clear, and the exercises/positions can be performed by almost anyone, regardless of ability/flexibility. 2. It's realistic: It doesn't go overboard and intimidate or discourage with too many exercises. 3. The author knows what she's talking about.

One word of caution: This book is not (nor does it pretend to be) a substitute for getting a proper diagnosis and, if needed, seeing a physical therapist for advice.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back an, Feb 12 2003

This review is from: Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back and Neck Pain Relief (Paperback)
I bought this book soon after it came out and it has been incredibly helpful to me many, many times. Both the diagnostic assessments and the yoga exercises are explained with clear, easy to follow instructions. I especially like the fact that Dr Schatz helps you understand what the exercises are doing for your body. But the best part is that within days, often even hours, of doing the yoga exercises, not only have my back problems improved, but so has my general outlook because I've been able to help myself to have better health. I highly recommend this book and thank Mary Schatz for writing it.
