5.0 out of 5 stars No-Nonsense Approach to Finding a Job Fit Dec 8 2009
By PGB - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Thank you, Vaughan Evans! From the mind of a former economist comes...a book about boosting your career? Huh? And yet, it's this unlikely intersection between Evans' big-picture view of market forces and his very human approach to finding job satisfaction that makes this career book so interesting, useful, and compelling. This workbook-style book will help you figure out if what you're doing is a great fit for you, and if not, why not. Whether you're self-employed, as I am, work for a company, or are currently unemployed or contemplating a career change, Backing U! helps you identify your capabilities, your competition, and what's ahead in your market or industry that will have an impact on your ability to succeed, develop, and be happy in the coming years. You start by thinking of yourself as a business. Would someone want to invest in you? Why or why not? How can you make yourself more "backable"? Seeing myself as a business, and then working through the steps in this book provided me with a whole new perspective on my career. This book is particularly useful for people who have that nagging feeling that they're not living up to their potential, or that their job somehow isn't meaningful enough. This book will help you find your passion and drive. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flexible and Helpful! Feb. 16 2010
By Carly Bernard - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I picked up this book as I am at a crossroads in my career, and other publications haven't really seemed to fit my circumstances. I have used this book as a constant reference for the moment. I would especially recommend this if you are in a career field like me where you have the option of working for yourself OR someone else, as every section addresses the unique needs of the self-employed as well as those of a rank and file worker or manager. A bit dry at times, but will most likely earn a permanant spot on my bookshelf for its usefulness.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Guide in Uncertain Times May 13 2010
By Max Eames - Published on Amazon.com

This book fills an important gap in the personal and professional success genre. The coverage is detailed, assured and thorough, providing an excellent balance of theory, research and step-by-step self-guidance.

Evans' obvious expertise and vast experience runs through the pages so YOU can become the career winner that might be struggling to shine through.

If you want a fast-track understanding of yourself -- your very own SWOT analysis, and then some -- you simply must take on the wisdom of this business-oriented book. But don't just read it... make notes, scribble in the margins -- and APPLY it.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Backing U!": Where the right brain and left brain meet April 6 2010
By Stacy Lytwyn Maxwell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Is your dream job just a dream? Or perhaps your dream job awaits. How about a career redo while staying in your current employment position?

If you are a business owner, are you running your business with oomph? On the other hand, if you are in the process of getting a business off the ground, will it soar or deflate?

If you want answers to musings like these, pick up "Backing U!"...but first buckle up, readers can be sure of an intensive, supercharged ride on the career path. Thirty-five-year biz whiz Vaughan Evans sure knows what hwyl, the "Celtic concept of passion, fervor and spirit, which can lift you to extremes of success," is all about. Of course, writing aimed at notions like this can become nauseatingly esoteric, and the writer can easily allow the right brain to run wild. Fortunately, Mr. Evans saddles down the enthusiasm with some cut and dry formulas and his left-brain thought process curbs the untamed think waves. As a result, the reader is left with a treasure chest of charts and grafts to help carve the learning curve, as far as career choices go, to a minimum.

Should you back your passion or not? "Backing U" is one of the best books written for those at a career conundrum who want some low-risk, result-orientated advice to help them charge into the next stage of their lives--or stay put. In the final analysis, if you don't back U, who will? Fortunately, you don't have to do it alone with this indispensible guide at your fingertips--carry it alongside your resume in the glove box on your career journey!
