A must have book for our region,
This review is from: Backyard Bounty (Paperback)
This book is a 'must have' for gardeners in our region. As a seasoned gardener I read sections and tid bits, sometimes for double checking planting specifics and sometimes for sheer inspiration. For new gardeners, they will do well with this publication for a long time.... We are blessed with a climate that can sustain us with food if we use Linda's information on year round gardening. It's presented with enough pictures to take the guess work out of things like the confusing process of pest management, and the books layout diagrams, charts and calandar notes are great for quick references. Books like this will change new gardeners into well informed, (and better fed) stewards of the earth.

fantastic for winter locavores!,
This review is from: Backyard Bounty (Paperback)
This book is great for Pacific Northwest Locavores wanting to grow through the winter. Concise and not overambitious like so many other books trying to grow veggies that are not suited to our climate. for beginners to long time gardeners there is something for everyone to learn and a great reference too. Love it !!!

This review is from: Backyard Bounty (Paperback)
This was my first how-to-garden book and I was so happy to find one specifically for organic gardening, specifically for the Pacific Northwest. Internet sources are good for general gardening tips; this book is perfect for specific regional tips, planting timetables by season and month, plant troubleshooting (aphids!) and how-to's. I used it as my reference constantly over the last year. Planning my garden was much less frustrating with the lists of plants easy, medium, and challenging to grow in this region. Recently, I found the chapter on seed starting to be a great refresher for starting my own seeds. I'm new to Seattle AND to gardening, and this book has been invaluable for me to learn the quirks of growing in this climate.I bought the Kindle version so searching the full text for specific topics is so easy. My only critique is that the monthly planting schedules are a little hard to read in the digital format.

Must read if you are trying to garden on the coast or Islands of the Pacific Northwest. Our temperate cool climate is a challenge, and these season extending techniques will allow you to grow many more "normal" crops. Not a good reference if you are in the "normal" areas of the US - like Phoenix.
