Ballhaus Pompos (the German title) enjoyed enormous popularity following its initial release ca. 1973, but niether style nor content limit it to that decade. It is a collection of campy but oddly respectful songs dedicated to familar cultural icons including Marlene Dietrich, the tango, '30s gangsters, and little green men from Mars. Tunes are melodic; lyrics are understandable (if you speak German). Styles vary enough from song to song to maintain your interest. In short, it is light-hearted fluff, but competently crafted and thoroughly enjoyable.
