L'achat d'une arme à feu et le choix d'un calibre ne doit pas se faire sans réfléchir. Bien identifier ses besoins et essayer l'arme avant de l'acheter est gage de succès et de plaisirs. Le chasseur et le tireur sportif n'ont pas le même objectif. L'un recherche une force de frappe et tandis que l'autre recherche la précision absolu. Un livre comme celui-ci vous permet de connaître différent calibres et leur caractéristiques générale. Cependant se sont les conditions d'utilisation et votre habileté à manier efficacement une arme qui fera une grande différence sur le résultat recherché. L'expérimentation sur le terrain d'utilisation est un élément trop souvent négligé. Bonne lecture et soyer réaliste !

This book has reached its 4th edition in the space of about 8 years which means that it sells. This medium quality paperback has a roughly 25-page introductory section about the basic ballistic concepts, about ammo selection and how to use the book. It is then divided into four data sections: (1) Small and medium cartridges, (2) Dangerous game cartridges, (3) pistol and revolver cartridges and (4) rimfires. The recipe is simple and effective and consists of about a 100 word paragraph regarding each cartridge, a simple sketch, velocity and pressure specifications and proof barrel twist. This is followed by the crux of what the book is about - velocity, energy, TKO, trajectory and wind drift summaries of factory ammunition available to the US market from lightest to heaviest bullet weight by manufacturer. No handloading or other data is provided and here and there the text is adorned with a b&w photo from one of the other books marketed by the publisher.The cartridge sketches are not uniform and lack shoulder angle details in many instances, but all in all it remains a convenient reference work for hunters to determine how the different factory options stack up against one another. It should also be useful to users of PC ballistic programs who do not handload and chronograph their ammunition. They can read info off the tables and punch it into the programs. The same information can also be had with a bit more trouble from manufacturer websites, so the book is not ground-breaking or pioneering. Technical book about ammo and ballistics table, that cover 99% of cartridges that are available commercially in the US. Include dimension diagrams for all the cartridges which are in this book. Specifications include all the commercially available bullets types(FMJ/JHP/JSP/LRN) for each caliber, bullets weight,range in yards,velocity,energy,trajectory and wind drift. Data included for cartridges suitable for dangerous game.(.404 Dakota-.700 Nitro Express). However no data is available for 5.7x28mm(FN P90),5.45x39mm(AK-74) and .50 Browning. Overall a good book, recommended for shooters,hunters and gun enthusiasts.

This is the most practical and most informative book I've read on the subject.It gives all the info you need for hunters and shooters and avoids reading a lot of literature. It contains not only the case dimensions and the relative recoil factor of each cartridge but also the ballistic data for the most used bullets. A must have... |
