5.0 out of 5 stars As addictive as a real MMORPG. . ., July 15 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: .hack: Infection (part 1) (Video Game)
. . .Without the added expense of an internet connection.

.hack//INFECTION starts out innocently enough, but as the player progresses through the game, they will come to realise that there is much, much more to THE WORLD than is on the surface.

At the same time, the game seems to be becoming infected with an unstoppable virus, that the administration of the system (C.C.CORP.) are trying to cover up by putting high level protection in place.

With Kite's bracelet, given to him by none other than Aura (first appearing in .hack//SIGN), the player can Data Drain monsters to gain really spiffy items that can't be found otherwise. As well, there is a GIGANTIC array of items for the Twin Blade class, and it's extremely fun to try and get them all through upgrading (throwing them into a Spring of Myst). At least, I think so.

Although .hack//SIGN is indeed a prequel to these games, it is not necessary to have watched it, although a lot more will make sense if one does. According to the creators, the .hack//GAMES are the center of the story.

And even better: The player can spend hours levelling up and gathering weapons and, when they buy the sequel (.hack//MUTATION), they can convert their data, keeping everything they've ever gotten!

Overall, this game series is a work of genius, with twists and turns that make the player wonder just what in THE WORLD is going on.
