"Maxim is a pro." -- -- Denver Post

Book Description

There is an affluent town in Connecticut where America's most dangerous men and women have "retired"--former wetwork operatives now scorned, distrusted, and targeted by the same government that created them. All Paul Bannerman and his people want is to live in peace. But there is no peace in a violent world.

A Los Angeles film student stumbled onto something terrible happening behind the walls of Sur La Mer, an insane asylum for movie folk. Now Lisa Benedict has been silenced permanently. But Lisa had people who cared for her, people who know better than to blindly accept the official lies being passed out about her tragic death. She had a sister, Carla: one of Paul Bannerman's most efficient assassins. And Carla wants revenge.

Bannerman and his agents have followed one of their own across a continent. And their search for Carla is leading them into the heart of the high-level conspiracy that snuffed out young Lisa's life and now threatens untold others. Bannerman and his team are a long way from home, the hunters and the hunted. But here, as in any urban jungle, the rules remain the same: survival of the fittest, the fastest, the deadliest and most ruthless--Bannerman's law.

The Bannerman series by John R Maxim is my favoriate series of books. I read them over and over as time goes by. My only complaint is that the writer has not written one in quite awhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Bannerman, Nov 30 2011
By Elizabeth E. Nunley "Cat lover in Renton" - Published on Amazon.com

To say I am hooked on Maxim's books and particularly the Bannerman series would be to put it mildly. I own his books in paperback and am now downloading and rereading on my Kindle. These are not deep intellectual treatises. They are well written escapism set in a Mass. town all of us would like to live in due the assured security maintained by Bannerman and his cohorts. They are all entertaining and well drawn and even though they are more or less on the most wanted list of every government in the world all of us secretly would like to be one of them. No one crosses one of Bannerman's people and survives to brag about it -- some are simply strongly admonished, others disappear. If you want an evening spent with entertaining characters who you would secretly like to join, read the Bannerman novels. If you want deep, introspective reading, these are not for you.
