Bravery, commitment to friendship, and personal sacrifice empower the weak and give rise to unlikely heroes in the magical world of Fairytopia. Elina (played by Barbie) is a wingless fairy who is mercilessly teased by a trio of spiteful fairies. Luckily for Elina, Dandelion (a fellow fairy) and Bibble (a cute little puffball) are good, supportive friends. When the evil Laverna plots to take over Fairytopia and spreads a potion that causes an epidemic of flying sickness in Fairytopia, Elina is the only fairy not overcome with the illness. It's up to Elina, Bibble, and new friend Hue to find a way to defeat Laverna and save Fairytopia from ruin. While the brightly colored animation of Fairytopia is enticing and the messages of friendship and sacrifice wholesome, the story line and characters are shallow and predictable. Worse yet, the colloquial dialogue and prepubescent attitude of many of the characters is downright annoying. While young Barbie fans will doubtless enjoy Fairytopia, Barbie Princess and the Pauper, Barbie Nutcracker, and Barbie Swan Lake offer richer story lines with better developed and more likeable characters. On a technical note, the DVD played fine on three test DVD players (Sony and Panasonic). (Ages 3 to 9) --Tami Horiuchi

4.0 out of 5 stars ADORABLE KIDS MOVIE Feb 1 2008
By Pat
Format:DVD
I highly recommend this movie for kids. Bibble Barbie's little friend is as cute as possible and incredibly unique. Our family loves the Barbie movies. This is a fun adventure in a magical land with great characters. It's a sweet "fairy" tale with a good message. These barbie movie also instill a good amount of girl power and that in itself is quite important.

IMO any editing mistakes are tolerable considering the overal charm of the movie, even oscar winning movies have little mistakes in them. The only big down side to me is, as I have mentioned before and will mention until it changes and I have a DVD to prove it, is their complete lack of multiculturalism (only caucasian characters come now mattel that's pretty sad, it is the 21st century).

I have bought the previous Barbie DVDs and my five year old daughter loves them.

However, "Fairytopia" is a different story. When Azura is captured by Fungus, my daughter asked me " Daddy, why is Azura still wearing the butterfly necklace that she gave to Elina (Barbie) to hold for her? It's not on her neck anymore.". I said " Nice catch, I guess the editors were off that day.". About six minutes later, my daughter asks me when Barbie (Elina) is riding on Hue the butterfly " Daddy, why doesn't Elina have the necklace that Azura gave her anymore? It's not on her neck". I said, " I guess the editors were off that day, too ". This movie proves that profit is more important than quality control and detail. I guess when a DVD has to be in the stores by a deadline, quality control and editing take a back seat. After all, children shouldn't care about detail. I hope the new Pegasus movie doesn't fall into the same trap. sandy.nemecek@scotiabank.com

I just bought this DVD for my five year old daughter. We have the other Barbie DVDs and she loves them. While watching this one, my five year old says to me " Daddy, when Azura is captured by Fungus, why is she still wearing the butterfly necklace that she gave to Elina? Her neck is bare.". I said " The editors made a huge mistake". Six minutes later when Elina ( Barbie) is flying on Hue the butterfly, my five year old daughter asks me " Daddy, what happened to the butterfly necklace that Azura gave to Elina? It's not on her neck anymore.". I said "I can't believe that someone as young as you spotted these unforgiveable editing mistakes". I guess money and profit rules over editing and quality control. If a five year old can spot these errors, what does it say about a multi-million dollar company's dedication to detail. What a shame!!! The storyline was actually quite brilliant. Hopefully, the next movie about Pegasus will not have the same problems.
