If you really want to understand how FC Barcelona became the powerhouse that it currently is, Graham Hunter's book reveals all. From the youth team setup and how they train kids in the Barcelona way (really the Johan Cruyff channeling Rinus Michels Total Football way given Cruyff basically was the architect behind all this once he became coach at Barca) to getting to know the personalities of all the great products of that youth system (Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas, Pique, Puyol, Valdes, etc.) this is a brilliant book.
The main focus is on the Pep Guardiola era and learning about him and his staff is actually even more fascinating. Most intriguing is the meeting a couple of Barca directors had with Jose Mourinho prior to Pep's hiring. It truly shows Barca is a club that finally knows deep down what it is and how to not only win trophies but play in a style that fits with their philosophy.
In addition, the color photos in this book are excellent. Check out the one of Messi wearing a mask in a youth team squad pic or of Pique wrapped in the goal netting he loves cutting down after Barca win their biggest matches.
