'Barcelona, curled languidly around its Mediterranean bay, seems designed for lovers: the broad avenues of Las Ramblas or the Passeig de Gràcia are made for strolling hand-in-hand, the tiny café tables dotted around the squares are perfect for two, fiery sunsets punctuated by the giddy spires of the Sagrada Família provide a movie-set backdrop, and the endless sun, sea and palm trees of the harbour seem to demand a partner to share them with.'
