Composer Jerry Goldsmith and director Paul Verhoven teamed up again, following their collaboration on Total Recall, for the steamy thiller Basic Instinct. The final result ended up as one of my favorite films from the 90's, while the musical score standing on its own, is truly a masterpiece. Despite the film's bold use of sex as a mojor plot device, Goldsmith's work is really a throwback to the work of Bernard Herrmann, especially when he teamed up with Alfred Hitchcock. The themes for Basic are simple and few in number, but there is no denying that the music works to enhance an intricate story. The themes are almost hypnotic and have the same effect when heard apart from the film. To spice things up a bit, the composer allows himself to use small amounts of synthesizer every so often. Goldsmith recieved an Oscar nomination for his work here--He should have won-hands down. It's that good. The original CD soundtrack release from Varese Sarabande records, in March of 1992, with its 10 tracks is recommended. But if you like the music as much as I do, I suggest you search out for an expanded edition of the score, available from Prometheus Records. That version boasts never before released music from the film, the tracks are in chronological order, and even comes with liner notes

After brahms i don't know many good composers. H. Grimaud should begin to create compositions, because, for me - she is the most important musician of today. I like very much G.Yared. But J. Goldsmith is the composer I love - like a cat he plays with notes. No, I'am shure, this is music a very important one. Thank You Jerry! très desolée pour mon bad english.
