Could not put this down!, Aug 2 2011
By N. Gargano "nokegchris" - Published on Amazon.com
I am a huge Rob Thurman fan and could not wait for this sequel. Although I discovered her through the urban fantasy genre, this book, which is a sequel to the book Chimera, is not in the urban fantasy category. It is just an old fashioned thriller, one that has a little science fiction element, but actually reminds me of Michael Chricton. Thriller books with a twist to give it a kick.
The relationship between these two brothers is at the heart of the story but it was great reading how they have each grown, together and on their own. I also love the character of Saul, and was really glad to see him back in such a major way.
I don't want to say to much, I don't want to give the story away, but as usual, Ms. Thurman throws in twists and turns that turn the story on it's head more than once. (See her trickster books, The Trick of the Light, and Grimrose Path, such fun) Anyway, the action was non-stop and it is a great book for anyone who likes a thriller book with more than non-stop action, but great characters that you fall in love with as well.
By the way if you read this book on Kindle, they put the line about checking out the other author's books in the wrong place, it is before the epilogue. So when you get there, keep going, and read the epilogue. Amazon goofed!

One of the best!, Aug 3 2011
By M. Cowan - Published on Amazon.com
This book is quite possibly one of the best I've read this year. After waiting for over a year (ever since Chimera's release), it did not disappoint! I did not merely read this book, I happily devoured it.
Unlike Chimera, Basilisk is told from Michael's point of view, and he is a delightfully humorous narrator. Michael has a dry sarcastic wit that had me snickering even at the most stressful and dangerous events in the novel. It is highly entertaining, even during the slower parts in the book (yes, there are slow parts. They are few and far between, and really, I can't blame the poor guys for wanting some rest from their many near-death experiences).
For me, the highlight of the novel is Michael's and Stefan's sibling relationship. I love how they are both good and pretty much moralistic people, and yet will do anything in their power to keep each other safe. This aspect of the book is the whole reason I read the series.
Okay, some quick housekeeping things: readers new to the series, I highly recommend that you read Chimera first, because frankly, Basilisk will be pretty confusing if you go into it without knowledge of events in Chimera (a huge plotpoint in Basilisk actually hinges on something revealed in Chimera, so it's pretty important). That being said, for those of you that hate to be left hanging in a series (I have a friend who refuses to read books in any series that is not finished), although Rob Thurman leaves herself an opening for a sequel, she resolves all the plot points in the book so that no one will be left hanging while waiting for another book.
Another great read from Rob Thurman! Highly recommended!

Basilisk is Awesome!!!, Aug 5 2011

This review is from: Basilisk (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is amazing. It's the sequel to the first novel "Chimera", which you should definitely read first. This book answers a lot of questions left over from the first novel, while still leaving the possibility for a third book (I hope!). "Basilisk" is full of action, adventure, and humour. I especially love Michael and his gun stealing ferret Godzilla. It's full of twists and turns and you never know what will happen next. There's really no more that needs to be said. Just buy it!
