Product Description

From Amazon.com

Few film soundtracks capture the essence or personality of their subject matter as beautifully as the collection of songs culled from Basquiat. Jean Michel Basquiat's charisma was based in the many facets of his character and his art, and there's a song here for a good portion of his ever-changing moods. "Public Image," by PiL is a cynical sneer matching Basquiat's own disillusionment over his fame. The inclusion of the undulating rap/funk masterpiece "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash, plays almost like a cautionary tale, while the hopelessness of Joy Division's "These Days" seems like a theme for the bleak emotional state the painter sometimes experienced. There are, of course, songs that reflect the period of Basquiat's rise from the '70s until his untimely death in the '80s. --Steve Gdula

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but I would have loved the jazz on there, Jun 27 2007

Can anyone tell me the name of the song that is playing while Basquiat is looking in the art gallery and everyone is inside?

Does anyone know the song that is being played when JMB goes into the bathroom of the restaurant and begins picking at his face?? I think it might be Tom Waits (but it is not Tom Traubert's Blues)...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but incomplete, May 26 2004

This review is from: Basquiat Music From The Film (Audio CD)
The movie contains more good music than the contained in this CD. A good movie with very good music.

To clarify a question asked in other review, the bike ride song it's not an instrumental song, it's only the starting part of "India" from the Psychedelic Furs first disc. At the movie the music finish just before the moment in that the song explodes, and if you only ear that part you don't will know the essence of that song. A fantastic song, the same that the whole disc, the debut disc of this band released in 1980 and re-releashed with all their discography in the past years. With The Sound and The Chameleons, one of my favourity groups in these days. Their music sounds still fresh after more than 20 years.
