A Fly in the Ointment,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Impossible Questions (& Astounding Answers) (Paperback)
I own something like 10 Bathroom Readers' Institute books, and love all of them EXCEPT for this rip-off. It is a thin, small book (about 5" x 3/4" x 7") with half of the pages listing nothing but large-type "questions." That's right: One or two sentences on half of the small pages. The backs of these pages contain the actual, interesting text.If this sold for perhaps $1.50 with free shipping, it would be worth it. Otherwise, for the amount of information, it is an unethical entry in the otherwise fun, interesting, and valuable Bathroom Readers' series. Don't buy this one. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful

Impossible Fun!,
By David Lizerbram - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Impossible Questions (& Astounding Answers) (Paperback)
This book was the best "possible" companion on a recent road trip. We all had a blast reading the questions, trying to figure out the answers, and finding out the real stories. We even guessed right a few times. Sometimes when we'd pull over at a rest stop (side note: I wish they had Bathroom Readers at truck stops), we'd stay in the car for a few extra minutes to hear the answer to a particularly puzzling question.Everyone liked the variety of topics. My favorites were the music questions, but we had fans of politics, history, science, and everything else. I'll never forget the secret history of Puma and Adidas...I'm looking forward to Impossible Questions and Astounding Answers, Volume 2 - I hope that one's coming soon. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Entertaining Time-Waster from Uncle John & Co.!,
By Michael OConnor "Wordsmith" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Impossible Questions (& Astounding Answers) (Paperback)
UNCLE JOHN'S IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS & ASTOUNDING ANSWERS is a pleasant enough one-off from those wonderful people at the Bathroom Readers' Institute. While it contains enough trivial information to while away a couple lunch hours or a flight out to San Fran, its format might be off-putting to some. Include me in that category. In 286 pages, the Uncle John's crew poses a question and answers it, in varying amounts of detail, on the next page. The 250+ questions are arranged in general categories like 'Origins,' 'Public Lives,' 'American History,' 'Flora & Fauna' and 'Games People Play.' The arrangement makes for a lot of white space in the book and you feel like the book's a bit of a fluff piece. The information, as always, is interesting. For example, you discover: Why doughnuts have holes; Who was the first female game-show host to win an Emmy; What's the largest unprotected nerve in your body; Where the largest sand dune area is in the United States; and What African mammal kills the most people every year. Since UNCLE JOHN'S IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS & ASTOUNDING ANSWERS retails for $9.95, perhaps the carping about format is much ado about nothing. The book is informative and fun so...your call, folks. ***** 3,700 Helpful Votes! |
