This novel explores the first official interaction with "The Joker", here is given the name as he reigns chaos upon the city of Gotham. A must read for any Batman fan. Though, a recommendation of reading "The Killing Joke" is advised for full effect in regards to understanding The Joker's lunacy and motives.

so, I guess after reading The Killing Joke, any other novel involving Joker kinda seems...flat. And I think that's why I wasn't blown away by this one. It's simply just an encounter between the Batman and Joker. Nothing special. I'm also not a big fan of the artwork. just too much ink. Look at jokers face on the cover. Everythings over accented. The story was good and I enjoyed the ending which was more of a conversation than a final battle between the Batman and Joker. Which I believe is something only this pair of enimies,(in the comic book world) could pull off. It satisfied me for an ending without having to resort to a bloody beating.

The first part is a great story about how Batman gets to meet the Joker, althought the end is more of a discussion than a battle. But i am confuse about the second story made of wood. No relation with the man who laugh seems to be happening years after not sure why this story is there
