4.0 out of 5 stars Before you buy, May 1 2011

So you have never read a Grant Morrison Bat book huh! Well do not start with this one. Go back and read Batman & Son, then follow the chronological trail of Morrison bat books until you get to this one.

I have read all GM's Batman titles and they were times I had to go back and reference something from a previous book in order for this to make sense. This book is a culmination of the years Grant has spent building his Batman mythology. This is the most detailed and thorough writer in comics today. If you are looking for a fast entertaining read then this book is not for you.

I assume anyone who has read the previous Morrison Bat titles is not reading this review to determine if they should buy this book, but are reading this to see if other fans have appreciated the story as much or as little as they did. Honestly most readers who have kept up with this series swing both ways on this title. I tend to think it was fantastic, but I did have to read it twice to come to this conclusion.

I recommend this book to anyone who is going to read all the previous stuff first( BATMAN & SON, THE BLACK GLOVE, RIP, BATMAN & ROBIN VOL 1 & 2, don't worry about the Resurrection of Ra's it has nothing to do with everything else. ), if you do not want to invest in all that, then go get Hush, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, Year One, or The Return of The Dark Knight, trust me you will be much happier then trying to jump in on this Title.

Any Grant Morrison fans who have not read this yet "What are you waiting for."

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant concepts and story, Mar 15 2011

Yeah, okay, so we all knew DC Comics wasn't going to kill off Bruce Wayne/Batman *For Real*. Turns out his *Death* was just... Darkseid using him as a time-travelling weapon meant to store up Omega Energy and bring about the *Destruction of the World*?! Wah?!

It's been said before, but Grant Morrison is a genius. No, he is. To explore the Batman mythos, his origin, his purpose, the way he does... it's unbelievable. Bruce Wayne was always meant to become Batman. It's the way things have been FOR AGES. Read this book to find out why...

Follow Bruce Wayne as he rediscovers who he is and what he does (that dastardly Darkseid wiped his memory), as he moves forward through time, from the Stone Age to the "Present Day". The story takes place over six different time periods, with a different artist [hand-picked by Morrison] for each time period. The "rotating artistic teams" thing is intentional, as the author picked the artist who could best portray each era. The only artistic constant with this mini-series is the cover artist, Andy Kubert.

This book is a great read by itself, but it can also be read in parallel with Morrison's run on "Batman & Robin". This guy's thought of everything. It is really something (and rewarding) to re-read all of Morrison's Batman run. It shows how he planned YEARS of stories, from the very beginning. Like I said, genius.

This book's a bit over-priced if you're going to pay retail, but the online price is just right, in my opinion. Highly recommended. 4 stars.

Fantastic bridge between Final Crisis and Morrisson's run on Batman and Robin. Find out why Bruce is one of the most dangerous heros out there and will his return save the world or destroy it?.The only thing this run is missing as a consistent artist.
