Review

Praise for Scott Snyder's Batman: Court of Owls Vol. 1:

A+. The hero's got personality (and is unafraid to release a quip as sharp as a Batarang), a horde of supervillains, gumption to spare and a whole host of high-tech gadgetry to suitably impress longtime fans and those new to the Dark Knight.”
USA Today

“This is one of the best comics of the week.”
The New York Times

“[Writer Scott Snyder] pulls from the oldest aspects of the Batman myth, combines it with sinister-comic elements from the series’ best period, and gives the whole thing terrific forward-spin by setting up an honest-to-gosh mystery for Batman to solve.”
Entertainment Weekly

“Scott Snyder, already the company's greatest asset over the last four weeks, spins a stack of plates immediately…. Too often Batman comics focus heavily on the hero persona … Snyder sets up equal amounts of conflict for both Wayne's public and private personas.”
Time Out Chicago

Batman: The City of Owls is the latest offering from critically acclaimed writer Scott Snyder and Artist Greg Capullo. This hardcover edition collects Batman 8-12, Batman Annual #1

The first book, Batman Vol. 1: The Court of Owls (The New 52) drew me in and kept me in high anticipation for this concluding title. Court of Owls became my current "Go-To" Batman Book. The first outing also earned my highest praise and respect for Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo.

Truth be told, I wasn't overly impressed on how things ended on an anti-climatic note. I had a high expectation for this title because the first book "The Court of Owls" had such a strong start, where the foundation was laid out with extensive thought and much consideration. I think the sequence of events could have been fleshed out more; not to unnecessarily prolong the story, but to end the story on a higher note. There were parts where I felt a sense of urgency where the writer seemed under pressure to finish the story. This sense of "rush" to the finish line ending was apparent because quite frankly things happened rather abruptly, without a more polished closure.

Regardless of my critical thought on this title I still think this one is a must buy to complete the Court of Owls story Arc.

I don't want to go into any spoilers here, because I highly recommend you to pick up all of the Court of Owls titles (they are all worth owning and are in my private collection) and see for yourself one of the best storyline/arc Batman has to offer!

Make sure you read Batman Vol. 1: The Court of Owls (The New 52) first before this one, and I do recommend people who are interested in more Court of Owls related stories to check out the crossover event collected in Batman: Night of the Owls (The New 52)

Thanks for reading!

Some of the comics was in the Attack of the Owls volume. But when mixed in with the other comics here, the set up was very nice. The story pulled me in. Batman is a tough character.
