Product Description

Review

Despite its seemingly cheesy premise, Batman vs. Dracula continues the Dark Knight's fine legacy in animated films, this time based on the hyper-stylized 2004 series The Batman. The mythology surrounding the meeting of these two characters goes back decades in the comics, so the idea of the costumed hero going head-to-head with the King of Vampires isn't as out there as it might sound. What is surprising is the dark nature of the film, which might end up scaring the little youngsters, but should play to adolescents and the character's older fan base brilliantly. Realized with the same graphic line drawing look that made the series stand out, Batman vs. Dracula is a bright, pop-art lover's dream soaked in the same kind of deep shadows that populate much of artist Mike Mignola's work. Plot-wise, it's a grab bag of mixed ideas, but the action is grandiose, as is the atmosphere created in such fantastic scenes as the one in the blood bank. So, while it may seem to be a stretch for good old Drac to end up buried underneath Gotham's graveyard, the premise makes for a rip-roaring tale of horrific proportions that doesn't often get to be told in the confines of kiddie-friendly entertainment. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

On the DVD

"Science vs. Superstition": Data files from Batman's computer probe the Dracula Legend
"City of Knight": Interactive Gotham city map that reveals cool making-of segments
"Voices in Closeup": Pop-up trivia and interviews reveal the voices behind Batman vs. Dracula

4.0 out of 5 stars Who's the Bigger Bat?, Sep 25 2007
What starts as a treasure hunt by the Penguin soon turns into a near-apocalyptic ordeal when he accidentally revives the legendary Dracula. Immediately, the prince of darkness begins to feed, snatching innocent citizens of Gotham from its streets.

Darkness blankets the city and the caped crusader is all who stands in the way between Dracula and the city's doom.

Wow. That was my first reaction when watching this. This direct-to-DVD release doesn't view as your standard Batman cartoon. This truly is a monster tale and views more like a horror movie than a superhero flick.

The vampires in this film are scary, looking like something between a vampire and a zombie. Dracula himself is neat, trim and suave, yet carries a presence of death.

This DVD also introduces Batman's love interest, Vicky Vale (who appeared both in the comics and in the 1989 movie). I have yet to discover how much of a role she will have in the half hour episodes of The Batman series (I have only watched up to season three), but it was great to see her on screen. It was also wonderful to see Bruce Wayne dealing with a female lead in a realistic way and having once again come face to face with Batman getting in the way of his personal life.

A surprising touch to this film was the Joker, not so much the character but what happens to him. Cool indeed.

This is a solid Bat flick, one which is meant for an older audience, definitely, not for kids. 13 or 14 and up, I'd say.

This flick is a keeper, one every true Bat fan should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding(may be the best animated Batman adventure to date), Aug 14 2007

this is a great movie.it has a very good story, good characters and lots of action.it's also very creepy at times and there is a definite air of eeriness to the movie.you can definitely feel a sense of danger and jeopardy for both The Batman and the rest of Gotham City.the main villain and the other characters are all well written, and the movie is very engaging and compelling.as well the voice acting is also very well done.the voices and characters really fit together.this may be the best animated Batman movie to date and it ranks right up there with the live action movies as well.if you're a Batman fan you should enjoy this movie.my vote for The Batman vs Dracula:4.5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars The Batman vs. Dracula, Oct 11 2006

(REAL NAME)
Do not let the title fool you this is an excellent feature, comparable to all the other animated movies made by Warners in the last decade. I actually passed over this title when it first came out last year, considering it unworthy of a look because of the title. It is an extremely well directed film, full of atmosphere and chilling horror. the animation is first rate and involving, also the charactors, Joker, Penguin, Vicky Vale and Dracula are treated with an adult audience in mind. It's too scary, I'd preview this for anyone under ten years of age.

If you enjoyed any of the other features, and are a fan of the new Batman series, then pick up this gem. If they ever release a title as silly as "Batman vs. Barbie" I think I'd take a look this time...
