Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Millan, television's "Dog Whisperer," says that "Even the most unobservant person can see an owner's own issues totally mirrored in his or her dogs' problems," and in this follow-up to last year's bestselling Cesar's Way, he makes that connection more explicit and exploitable. Every dog wants a "clearly defined social framework, with a fair, consistent pack leader"; chances are good, then, that behind every unruly dog is an inconsistent human. To become the master your dog needs, one must cultivate "calm-assertive energy," a mind-set that puts both dogs and people at ease; besides thorough explanation, Millan offers a number of suggestions for developing this powerful form of non-verbal communication, including visualization techniques and inner dialogue ("focus your mind, and then tell yourself, 'This is my sofa.' "). Answering readers' requests for more straightforward advice, the book also offers a rundown of training tools-collars, leashes, etc.-and step-by-step instructions for properly handling common occurrences such as meeting a new dog, walking, feeding and visiting the vet. In numerous case studies, Millan's love for his work is obvious and infectious; whether you need a book for your dog or yourself, Millan's simple techniques, compassionate tone and intimate knowledge of dog psychology (and the human effect on it) makes this a worthy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lot Can Be Learned, Oct 24 2007
I have read both of Cesar's books and have really learned a lot from them. His techniques have impacted my dog's life. His 1st was a lesson in dog behavior and how to deal with their issues that usually lead to bad behavior. This new book helps both the dog and the human by establishing how to be the leader in your dog's life. He gives many examples of how to be a calm assertive leader as well as why this state of mind is so important. I REALLY recommend this book and the book "Understanding: Train of Thought" to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basics of being a dog owner, Sep 4 2009
By
E. Beavis (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life (Paperback)
This is a fundamental book if you are a dog owner. It explains the basics to how your dog sees everything around them, and it is important to understand this, as most of us naturally sees how things relate to us. How dogs relate and how humans relate is very different, and that is why if we don't understand how dogs relate and assume they are just like us, then problems emerge. This book has specifics to guide us, which is not necessarily natural to humans, such as walking through 30-40 dogs with "No talk, no touch, no eye contact" rule. If you want a happy dog, a happy household, a happy you, then you need to read this book and understand how dogs relate to everything around them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please do NOT use these tecniques on your dog!, May 23 2012
This review is from: Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life (Paperback)
Cesar Millan is spewing out nothing but MYTHS about dogs. They are not taking over the world, they are not wolves, and the term "dominance" is such a misconceived notion that most experienced dog trainers do not use it AT ALL. There are better, gentler, more effective ways of managing your pets behaviour that don't include physically "dominating" them. Mr. Millan has no formal education in the sciences of dog behaviour. The techniques he employs were popular FORTY years ago and have since been scientifically proven innacurate, detrimental to your relationship with your dog, and downright DANGEROUS. Please do not support this man. Look into positive dog training. Turrid Rugas, Kathy Sdao, Karen Pryor, Victoria Stillwell and many others have books and websites to help you learn the world of obtaining and remaining your dogs friend, provider, and companion.. rather than his "dominant packleader" who becomes (in the dogs eyes) unpredictable, untrustworthy, and scary. Please do your research!
