Product Description

From Booklist

Though the origins of French beaded flowers are not all that clear (after all, glass beads have been traced to Venice), Baker gives a more-than-adequate account of their fashioning. Delicate to look at and almost as difficult to shape and work, these faux bouquets, originally revived in the 1960s and 1970s, achieve new prominence in the millennium thanks to the emphasis on handcrafts and to a desire to spend less-than-antique sums of money. Illustrations accompany all of the complicated loops, whether single or multicrossover, yet close-up graphics would have clarified techniques even further. The author assumes some prior beading know-how on the part of the reader; details delivered on every aspect of beadwork, from tools and supplies to different ways of covering stems, are not attuned to rank novices. 2.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't buy, Nov 14 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Beads in Bloom (Paperback)
Well I have looked into different books on beaded flowers and saw reviews of this book so I went to my local library and requested it. Well when I got it I sat and looked through it while I did like how the instructions were simple and clear I did find it was lacking in projects I got a few of the other books out there and feel they are much better. I did love the galeray of flowers in the middle of the book and would have rather had the patterns for some of those flowers instead. I will say if you really want this book find it at the library and copy the first few pages in techniques and return it. Don't buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, silly projects, Sep 8 2003

I was excited to find this beautiful book at my local bookstore. It has a nice history of the art of beaded flowers and very comprehensive instructions. The photos are wonderful of what the best of this craft are currently doing plus vintage items. But if you are looking for a good project section, look elsewhere. The only projects are for 5 little corsages or pins that can be worn on a lapel. There are no instructions for arranging beaded flowers. This book stays on the bottom of my beaded flower book stack. It would be great if they would revise this book to include some real projects.

I couldn't wait until I owned a copy of this book! I love the instructions and all of the how-to information. I am currently trying to reproduce the roses on the cover. It is wonderful for learning and inspiration.
