Review

"Paddington has joined Pooh as one of the great bears of English children's literature" The Teacher --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Book Description

A wonderful new edition of the classic story of Paddington, the bear from Darkest Peru, who was found lost on Paddington Station. Now published into the First Modern Classics list, fantastic stories for young readers. The Browns first met Paddington on a railway station -- Paddington station, in fact. He had travelled all the way from Darkest Peru with only a jar of marmalade, a suitcase and his hat. The Browns soon found that Paddington was a very unusual bear. Ordinary things -- like having a bath, travelling underground or going to the seaside became quite extraordinary, if a bear called Paddington was involved.

This review is from: Bear Called Paddington (Paperback)
When Mr and Ms Brown invited into their home a stowaway bear called Paddington, I don't think they, along with anybody, would have expected this marmalade-lover's adventures to have a great impact into their lives, and ours, nor that he would become, in our world that is, a popular character in children literature and British culture. Now I heard some cynical people around me (Mister and Miss Curry) calling Paddington Bear clumsy, dim-witted and the most stupid creature that the world has ever seen. However I think those cynical people are wrong and should take a note from this young bear's golden heart, decency and good manners.

It is in this book that we get to find Paddington's first adventures around London as he experiences adventures at the theater, in the Underground (or Subway),in a large shop, at the beach and at his new home. It is in this book that we get to see the most recurring characters and locations that occur in the Paddington Bear series like Portobello Market, Mr Gruber and I am very pleased that the Kindle edition hs kept Peggy Fortnum's original ink illustrations, which I am very fond of for their energy and the clear expressions of the characters.

In the end, this book is the first in the long classical series of Paddington Bear, who comes from Darkest Peru and who loves marmalade sandwiches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paddington..., Feb 9 2000
He is so clumsy, that anyone will laugh. I read all of the Paddington books I could find as a kid, and I read them again as I got older. And I would read them again, and again and again. This is a very good reason to have kids, so you can buy this book. Too bad he has become some sort of commercial bear, he is much greater as a little clumsy bear trying to please all the people.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bear Called Paddington, Dec 20 1999
By A Customer
Classic story of Paddington the Bear who comes to live with the Brown family in London. Most children know the stuffed animal but haven't heard the escapades. This issus is a welcome addition to children's libraries. Very good, humorous, fun animals, with good black and white illustrations. Recommended for K through the 4th grade students.
