Product Description

From Amazon.com

Die-hard Beavis and Butt-head fans will probably enjoy this incidental "best of" compilation, which contains seven segments pulled from MTV, aggregated into a 50-minute presentation. But creator Mike Judge's two nerdy, sexually piqued high school delinquents pale in the shadow of that other animated wonder, South Park. In fact, Beavis and Butt-head seem a little passé in light of the success of rival network Comedy Central and its wunderkind, junior high school-based series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of BASEketball fame. Consequently, the segments rely on the same tired jokes again and again ("heh-heh, heh-heh, he said 'come'") and by the time Beavis chows down on too much sugar and his alter-ego, Cornholio, appears in episode six, we're struggling with the woeful repetition and limitations of the boys' routine. The best is saved for first on the disc because the segment entitled "No Laughing" is at least somewhat original in spirit. It may be that we haven't yet been dumbed down by the one-trick pony parade. As for the rest, well, things progress from okay to bad and even Cornholio, searching for "T.P. for my bunghole" can't bring things up to speed. This is definitely a disc for true Beavis and Butt-head believers only. Oddly enough, the DVD contains some color shifts and even occasionally drifts out of focus. --Paula Nechak

5.0 out of 5 stars One trick pony, Feb 24 2004

This review is from: Beavis&Butt-Head:Final (DVD)
OK, I haven't seen this DVD. I've more than likely seen the episodes it compiles. My reason for writing this is to question the Amazon review by Paula. To criticize Beavis and Butthead for being a one trick pony while praising South Park seems hypocritical. Anyone who has watched South Park knows that they've been running the same gags in variation. A fascination with fecal matter. The Chef's big chocolate balls. Kenny getting killed. Again. And again.

I'm not criticizing SP. I think both cartoons are funny and great. I just question pointing out the failings of one while missing the failings of the other. What's next, accusing Cheers of shooting from a bar a majority of the time while praising Everyone Loves Raymond for the recurring intruding mother?

4.0 out of 5 stars It is edited, Feb 18 2006

The set is great, but Buyer Beware: The episodes have been edited. While watching the episodes, they seemed unusually short, even after taking into account that the music videos are omitted. I finally noticed while watching "Figure Drawing" that little bits and pieces that are not essential to the plot have been cut. I watched a VHS version of this episode that I bought years ago, and confirmed that some bits have been cut. I guess they were cut for space, but as someone that wants to see the episodes in their entirey, this is annoying.

Otherwise, this is an awesome set, and highly recommended.
