Product Description

In many ways, the Browns are like any other middle-American family. They eat, play, and pray together, squabble and hug, striving to raise happy, well-adjusted children while keeping their relationship loving and strong. The difference is, there are five adults in the openly polygamous Brown marriage—Kody and his four wives—who among them have seventeen children.

Since TLC first launched its popular reality program Sister Wives, the Browns have become one of the most famous families in the country. Now Kody, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn reveal in their own words exactly how their special relationship works—the love and faith that drew them together, the plusses and pitfalls of having sister wives, and the practical and emotional complications of a lifestyle viewed by many with distrust, prejudice, even fear. With the candor and frankness that have drawn millions to their show, they talk about what makes their fascinating family work, addressing the topics that intrigue outsiders: How do the four relationships differ? What effect does a polygamous upbringing have on their children? What are the challenges—emotional, social, or financial—involved in living this lifestyle? Is it possible for all four sister wives to feel special when sharing a husband—and what happens when jealousy arises? How has being on camera changed their lives? And what’s it like to add a new wife to the family—or to be that new wife?

Filled with humor, warmth, surprising insights, and remarkable honesty, this is a singular story of plural marriage and all the struggles and joys that go with it. At heart, it’s a love story—unconventional but immediately recognizable in the daily moments of trust, acceptance, forgiveness, passion, and commitment that go into making one big, happy, extraordinary family.

The Brown family, open polygamists, are the stars of the popular reality program Sister Wives, a hit for TLC not only because of the unusual subject matter, but also because of the honesty and frankness of the entire Brown family. Now in their own words they reveal even more to help viewers better understand the lifestyle, the family dynamics, the experience of living "on camera", and the love shared in their unusual family, in a candid memoir that openly discusses the details of how their special relationship works.

The Browns offer honest answers to the questions viewers who tune in every week can't help but have. How do all the wives feel special while sharing one husband? How does a woman decide to become a sister wife, especially if she's not born into the lifestyle? How do the four relationships differ from each other? How do child-rearing conflicts get resolved. How does the sole husband navigate the emotions of the women and handle jealousy among his four wives? With the trademark candor that has drawn millions of viewers to their show, the Browns tell readers everything they've ever wanted to know about life in a plural marriage.

My Review:

Hmmm....don't know quite what to say about this book. It was well-written and read fast but I found it to be blatantly honest and open with no-holds barred. The honesty and clarity which each member of the family spoke was truly eye-opening. I felt in reading the book that the family doesn't appear to be quite as happy as they appear to be on television and was somewhat surprised at a lot of things they wrote about in the book.

I don't agree with their lifestyle but to each his own and I guess it's these oddities that make our world go round. Just for interest sake, you might find this book revealing.

Well I went into reading this book thinking ,that I just wanted to learn a little more about the Browns than the T.V. show
showed me . Boy did it ever ! Honestly somewhere inside I thought it might be nice to have a sister-wife. Shared responsibilities , help with the chores and the parenting . Yes, the ladies love each other and have chosen this life. But the relationship struggles are so painful, and so difficult !!The show makes it look wonderful, even the differences they share , the book shows you how it really is . The Love , the Laughter , the Pain , the Jealousy, the Faith !!!
I COULDN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN !!! If you are even remotely open-minded READ THIS BOOK !!!!

This book is great, gives reason to love sister wives. Briefly touches the topic of poligamy on a religious stand point, but mostly the Brown's share how things work in their house, and what makes their marriage strong.
