Oct 27 2009 The Bride Quartet

View our feature on The Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts

Love blooms in the second novel in Nora Roberts’s celebrated Bride Quartet series.

As little girls MacKensie, Emma, Laurel, and Parker spent hours acting out their perfect make believe “I do” moments. Years later their fantasies become reality when they start their own wedding planning company to make every woman’s dream day come true. With perfect flowers, delicious desserts, and joyful moments captured on film, Nora Roberts’s Bride Quartet shares each woman’s emotionally magical journey to romance.

In Bed of Roses, florist Emma Grant is finding career success with her friends at Vows wedding planning company, and her love life appears to be thriving. Though men swarm around her, she still hasn’t found Mr. Right. And the last place she’s looking is right under her nose.

But that’s just where Jack Cooke is. He’s so close to the women of Vows that he’s practically family, but the architect has begun to admit to himself that his feelings for Emma have developed into much more than friendship. When Emma returns his passion—kiss for blistering kiss—they must trust in their history…and in their hearts.

3.0 out of 5 stars These women are idiots! Feb 28 2010
Format:Paperback
First of all, I have to state that I respect Nora Roberts' work and usually enjoy her books immensely. Most of the time I like her characters and find them fairly sympathetic.
This time, not so much.
****SPOILERS AHOY****

Bone to pick number 1: Emma, hereafter to be known as Idiot Girl, gets involved with a commitment-phobe (Our Hero) and is then stupid enough to start wanting marriage after FOUR MONTHS of dating. What planet is this girl from? Is she a masochist or a moron? Personally, I have her pegged as both.

Number 2: When Idiot Girl gets the key to her boyfriend's place from his secretary (he has no idea) and proceeds to girlify his house and the poor bastard comes home from a very hard day at work, feeling like crap and then horrified by the flowers and ABBA permeating his personal space, she throws a hissy fit because he's not appropriately grateful and dumps him. The we're supposed to feel sorry for her. Please.

Number 3: Idiot Girl's friends, who are all clearly as stupid as she is, refuse to allow Our Hero to apologise to her for his lousy behaviour and treat HIM like the bad guy for not wanting to rush into commitment FOUR MONTHS INTO THE RELATIONSHIP. What gets me is that by the tone of the writing, we're clearly supposed to admire these women for treating Idiot Girl like a baby and Our Hero like a cruel, heartless bastard.

I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could read this and not want to bludgeon the protagonist and her friends, although Mac is somewhat okay. Nora Roberts needs to get back on track and write some likeable characters, because her Bride Quartet is beginning to suck. For the first time since picking up my first NR book I am not going to bother finishing one of her series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely May 7 2010
By Michelle TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Bed of Roses is more of the same as vision in white. The friendships remain strong between the girls and they stand up for each other even to other loved family members. This was VERY predictable all the way to the end, and I am sure the next two books in the series will be too, but I still loved reading the book. I got through it quickly; I'm a sucker for a good romance novel! I like all the details about the flowers, wedding's and even the evil bride stories. The love and admiration that blossoms between Emma and Jack was very sweet and I was routing for them both to end up happy together! Again I found parts of this book to be pretty funny, and I enjoyed the different aspects between the guys and girls (ie. each individual relationship to one another). I hope in the next 2 books somehow maybe the "girls" relationships will be tested... just something not expected maybe?!?!?!
