Sara Delaney has never forgotten the boy that took her heart and ran away with it in high school. Now an emergency room nurse, she once again comes face to face with the man she has been unable to forget - Alex Conrad.
Emergency room nurse Sara Delaney thought her life was simple. Working all hours until she is numb from lack of sleep still doesn't allow her to forget the guy that took her virginity so many years ago in high school. She also hasn't forgotten the pain that he caused her when he broke her heart. Although her life is busy with work, she has no social life to speak of, and sex is so rare that she is afraid she will never have it again. When, during a particularly busy shift, she goes to do the intake of a patient having an allergic reaction, Sara is suddenly struck motionless. The patient having the reaction? It is none other than Alex Conrad, the man that hurt her so badly years ago.
Alex Conrad has come back to his hometown. When he has an allergic reaction and visits the emergency room, he is surprised to find Sara Delaney as his nurse. Remembering how he treated her all those years ago doesn't make him proud but in his own inflated egotistic way, he is determined to once again make her his. The fact that she is feisty and independent and not receptive to his seduction skills sets him down a notch, but it also makes him more determined to once again become her lover. Now all he has to do is convince Sara of this fact - and that might be quite the task.
With one scene, Sophia Rae hooked me on this book. As a girl that can remember having her heart broken in her youth, I wanted very much for Sara to let Alex have it with both barrels. I wanted him to pay for hurting her and I wanted him to pay big. The longer I read, however, the more I found myself wanting Sara to forget Alex's youthful and selfish decision and forgive him. Time has changed the boy she knew and made him a man - and it is his adult reflections and treatment of Sara that made me fall in love with him. Sexy and playful, Alex is certain he can have Sara as a lover again. Imagine his surprise when she is harder to win over this second time around.
BEDSIDE MANNER brought the characters to life. I cheered for them to find the love each held in their hearts for the other and as such I was thoroughly entertained through out this extremely well written and wonderfully told story. I loved it.

Sara Delaney, ER nurse, finds herself working so much and so often, that she doesn't have time for a social life. No time for romantic interludes, and she wonders if "her parts are still working" after three years. Near the end of one of her exhausting shifts she is asked to evaluate a patient suffering from a bad allergic reaction. The allergy patient turns out to be none other than ex-high school jock, lothario, Alex Conrad. He just happens to also be the young man who took Sara's virginity.
Sara at first doesn't really want anything to do with Alex. With determination and hot pursuit, Alex convinces Sara into a relationship of sorts and Sara only agrees after promising sex only and no commitments. Beside Manner is a fun story, full of passionate and sexy encounters, over-protective brothers, and a fun twist to the high-school reunion type stories. (the allergic reaction meeting was the best!) Sex between Alex and Sara is hot, steamy, and proves Sara isn't the only one with a great bedside manner. Watching Alex and Sara fall in love as adults was exciting and a great addition to the Delany storyline, which was started with Sara's brother Marcus and Sara's best friend Chole, in A Stranger's Bed.
