I'm really happy with this guide, it didn't disappoint me. As promised on the advertisements, it is a complete guide for Pastel beginner's. It brings information about the different materials used in pastel painting, including good tips for cleaning and maintenance. It contains a gallery, where some nice pastel paintings are exposed. They are a very good reference to understand the possibilities on Pastel arts. Finally, the step-by-step exercises are easy but not simple, they are quite challenging. Wich is good and pleasant! The paintings reproduced by the exercises are beautiful works. It seems they have been carefully chosen to explain and train the artist on a comprehensive range of different techniques, styles and surfaces-including canvas. It is not usual to find detailed instructions for painting pastels on canvas in beguiner's guides. Very pleasant and instructive.

I was delighted with this purchase. The book is an excellent addition to my art library. It is very well-written and quite a practical reference for beginners. When I purchase a book to add to my art collection, I try to select volumes that are different from any of those I already own, and this one did not disappoint. A terrific investment.

This a good short, basic book for people like me who are just beginning to do some figurative pastels. it is informative and the suugested projects are helpful--they include a wide range of pastels to paint: landscapes, portraits, etc. i bought it from amazon and it arrived promptly in new condition--it was new.
