1.0 out of 5 stars Not really beginning April 3 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is not really for beginners. The first two chapters are nicely written but the rest are poorly written and not so clear. So if you have prior knowledge on game programming , yes you will know what the author is talking about otherwise you will be lost and confused.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to take a foray in game development. The author gives you a lot of background information and doesn't assume you know anything about game development. It does assume you know a little bit about the Java language though.

While moving along through the book, you're building a very functional game development framework while learning why specific desing choices are made. There is a lot of explanations and test cases that allows you to understand the mechanic behind everything you build.

Source code is provided and explained in details, bringing you to make 3 full games. You'll be mostly doing 2D development (with and without OpenGL ES) as well as a little peek in 3D programming. But don't expect to release the next blockbuster 3D game without more learning about the subject.
