5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, Great Reference, Jan 13 2009
By Wellsdone "Wells" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beginning Ubuntu LTS Server Administration: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition (Paperback)
This book is exactly as it states NOVICE to PROFESSIONAL. It is very well written, as a go-to reference manual, as well as being educational for beginners. The blend of technical "jargon" with the ease of everyday language make this book a must have in your arsenal of linux books.
I do have to disagree with the previous commenter suggesting that the writer write in such a manner that ALL is to understand(its impossible). I believe like most who will purchase this book, that you/I have SOME technical know how and enough interest in Linux Administration to actually have some sort of inkling as to what we will be getting ourselves into. If not, I suggest reading this first "Beginning Ubuntu Linux". I hope this review helps the Novice the Pros and everyone in between.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for new Ubuntu (GNU/Linux) networks administrators, Dec 29 2008
By Jorge Román - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beginning Ubuntu LTS Server Administration: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition (Paperback)
This author made easy the installation and administration of a network with an Ubuntu server and Windows clients. The book is good for beginners but not not for the dummies, it requires a minimum knowledge about computers. It will be good for future references.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad to the core, Nov 12 2008
By R. Cobo "RC" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beginning Ubuntu LTS Server Administration: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition (Paperback)
I found this book to be quite hard to follow through. In addition, he assumes too much and does not get into details. I found impossible to follow, if you are new to Linux administration. Furthermore, some of the examples do not work. He goes somehow deep into theory and not into practical working examples. Some sections are missing details, and overall, after installing your server, the book does not provide an easy-to-follow manual, or an specific introduction to Linux servers. I wish I could have read something like this, before I bought this book. To me, it is a complete waste of time and money. I understand that there are not too many books written on this subject, that really are worth while to buy; but, this follows into the category of "the crappy ones." I believe, that to write in a way that everyone understand, one has to understand that not everyone is born knowing everything, and if one writes a book is to provide with accurate information, at least. This is one of the worst, if not the worst, book I have ever had.
