Grinding wheel, part II,
By TheBlackHull (Hull, QC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Behold the Failure (Audio CD)
Another huge grind blast, "Behold the Failure" starts where "Customized Warfare" left. This time, Mumakil takes side along another beast: Relapse records, who can help the grind band to conquer new audiences. Like the previous album, "Behold the Failure" isn't any new type of grindcore-a genre often associated with degrees of "pure extreme", rather than being progressive or creative. It's a blast, pleasing many grind fans in that way. Mumakil incorporates the loudness of actual brutal death metal, with the blastbeats and saturation of grindcore. This album will be appreciated by fans of brutal grind, but don't look forward to find much diversity or harmony in it.

PURE BLASTING MAYHEM!!!!,
By R. Odom "metal_cyco" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Behold the Failure (Audio CD)
First of all I have to give respect to Frank Rini, the first reviewer of this album. His review is what made me check this band out, as well as the NEW Squash Bowels, "Grind Virus", since I was looking for something new to check out. I was not disappointed in either band or album so I bought both so thanks a lot. Also, thanks for putting out such killer albums with Internal Bleeding back in the day. Still up there with some of my favs of all time. Now the review. I'm pretty new to the grind genre but I must say this is one brutal album. Behold The Failure will completely crush you under the wieght of it's fast paced grind mayhem. I could see these guys claiming the throne that was once held by NASUM, yes it's that good. I liked it so much I picked up their first album, "Customized Warfare." I really like both albums a great deal for competely different reasons. Behold The Failure I like because of the sheer brutality and fast paced nature of the album through and through as well as the production quality. I also like the vocals a lot. Customized Warfare I like for it's groovier grind anthems and the fact that they seem to mix it up a bit more on this one. Anyway, if you're into bands like Nasum, Misery Index, Squash Bowels, Phobia and Pig Destroyer you will definately want to take a spin in the whirlwind that is MUMAKIL. BLASTCORE TO THE MAX!!!!,
By Frank Rini - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Behold The Failure (Vinyl) (LP Record)
On Mumakil's sophmore follow-up to their fantastic Customized Warfare have they slown down?? No way. In fact they have sped up a bit. The album is probably one of the most extreme pieces of music that will be released in '09. They call themselves Blastcore. Blastcore, Grindcore, Crushcore, whatever you want to call it, this is straight up grind. Very rarely do they ever slow down, which I feel is a bit of a downfall when compared to their predecessor. I really love customized warfare. It was pure grind, but track #15 was a slow song, that was so heavy it could make your house fall down, gave you a little breather before #16 came on and grinded you into bones again. I also felt that the first release had more memorable riffs, not that this one doesn't, it's just that Behold the Failure is grind from beginning to end with no let up. The piq squeals, which were amazing on the first cd are only on 2 tracks on this one and are towards the end of the cd. This is somehow turning into more of a negative review than I wanted it too, sorry-so while I prefer their first cd to this in a nutshell this cd still rages, crushes and destroys everything in it's path. Super heavy, grinds and the production is top notch. I am happy for them that they're on Relapse-it will open more doors for them. Fans of Napalm Death, Nasum, Terrorizer, Pig Destroyer take special notice of this band, so that you can add them to your collection.
