Amazon.ca Product Description
Hotel rooms and airport terminals never seem to have enough power outlets to charge all the devices today's traveler brings along. Now you can add outlets and peace of mind on business trips and vacations with the Belkin Mini Surge Protector. This new design features three AC outlets and two powered USB outlets* - perfect for MP3 players and mobile phones. * Important: This product's USB outlets cannot be used as a USB hub and does not transmit data. The powered USB outlets on this unit are intended solely for charging devices that can be charged via a USB interface.
From the Manufacturer
Whether you're crossing continents or just heading across town, the Belkin BZ103050-TVL Mini Surge Protector/Dual USB Charger is the type of travel companion that makes your life easier. Featuring three protected AC outlets, two protected, powered USB outlets, and a unique rotating plug design that lets you work in tight spaces, this compact surge protector lets you plug in and charge all your essential devices wherever you are.
You can easily slip this mini surge protector into your laptop bag or carry-on.
Includes mini-USB cable for charging phones, MP3 players, and other devices.
Hotel rooms, airport terminals, and coffee shops never seem to have enough power outlets to handle all your devices at once. With the Belkin Mini Surge Protector you no longer have to choose what to charge first.
This surge protector acts as a power strip, letting you plug three AC devices into a single wall outlet. It is rated to handle 918 Joules and provides protection against power surges and spikes, since the smart traveler is looking for protection of essential gear and irreplaceable data, not just extra outlets.
Two Powered USB Outlets Let You Charge More Devices Easily
In addition to its three AC outlets, this surge protector features two protected, powered USB outlets, so you can easily charge your iPod along with other USB devices. These USB outlets do not transmit data and the surge protector cannot be used as a hub, but they do make it exceptionally easy to keep devices that are charged via USB interfaces up and running without blocking your computer's USB ports or the AC outlets that you need for bigger devices.
Plus you may be able to leave long, tangle-friendly cords and clunky item-specific chargers at home, since this mini surge protector comes with a mini-USB cable. This is especially convenient now that many phones, including Blackberries and Motorola RAZR phones, feature USB power connections.
Unique, Efficient Design with Rotating Plug for Added Versatility
Its compact, lightweight, and efficient design means that you can easily slip this mini surge protector into your laptop bag or carry-on, and because Belkin knows that working on the road often means trying to plug in despite awkward outlet or furniture positioning, a 360-degree rotating plug with four locking positions makes it easy to use this device in tight spaces.

Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.
The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.
DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.
The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock.Read more ›

Now imagine that at least 4 of these devices can be charged in parallel from the same outlet (two via the USB ports, 2 or 3 more via the grounded 3-prong power ports). Imagine how happy your various fellow travellers - who depend on you for their tech support - will be to know their devices will have enough juice for the day ahead.
(Note that for high-drain devices like an ipad or Blackberry phone, the USB ports don't supply enough juice to charge. But a small AC-to-USB adapter allows you to use one of the 3 AC ports to charge via USB. Wherever possible, get an AC-to-USB adapter which has a high output rating, such as 1000mA, 1500mA or higher. 500mA is not enough.)
Simply put, it turns your simple wall outlet into 3 outlets, and 2 USB ports.
It also acts as a little surge protector for anything you have attached to it. Meaning, I'll be using this for important electronics while camping, etc.
Weirdly enough, it also came with a Mini USB cable. I don't have anything that uses Mini USB, neither do most people any more. Everything uses Micro USB.
Keep in mind, that the USB outlets on this guy will not be the best for charging iPads or anything larger. iPads charge at 2 Amps I believe, and each USB port on this charger only provides 500mA. It will charge, just not as fast as it could. This is something most people wouldn't notice when they are buying. It doesn't bother me though. If I bring my iPad, the whole charger goes with it. ;)
I have been to Japan, Singapore and Australia with this baby and I never travel without it. So useful in hotels and you never worry about shotty power fluctuations blowing your laptop or phone.
Do yourself the favour and buy the new version with the higher output USB. 1/2 amp charging is well below the 2 amp norm now. iPhone 4's are 1A charge as reference.
