Convenient, Dependable Design for Worry-Free Travel
Hotel rooms, airport terminals, and coffee shops never seem to have enough power outlets to handle all your devices at once. With the Belkin Mini Surge Protector you no longer have to choose what to charge first.

This surge protector acts as a power strip, letting you plug three AC devices into a single wall outlet. It is rated to handle 918 Joules and provides protection against power surges and spikes, since the smart traveler is looking for protection of essential gear and irreplaceable data, not just extra outlets.

Two Powered USB Outlets Let You Charge More Devices Easily
In addition to its three AC outlets, this surge protector features two protected, powered USB outlets, so you can easily charge your iPod along with other USB devices. These USB outlets do not transmit data and the surge protector cannot be used as a hub, but they do make it exceptionally easy to keep devices that are charged via USB interfaces up and running without blocking your computer's USB ports or the AC outlets that you need for bigger devices.

Plus you may be able to leave long, tangle-friendly cords and clunky item-specific chargers at home, since this mini surge protector comes with a mini-USB cable. This is especially convenient now that many phones, including Blackberries and Motorola RAZR phones, feature USB power connections.

Unique, Efficient Design with Rotating Plug for Added Versatility
Its compact, lightweight, and efficient design means that you can easily slip this mini surge protector into your laptop bag or carry-on, and because Belkin knows that working on the road often means trying to plug in despite awkward outlet or furniture positioning, a 360-degree rotating plug with four locking positions makes it easy to use this device in tight spaces.

I've been searching for a product that can extend the outlet on my bathroom for the electrical products that I use. I finally came across this Belkin mini surge protector and features:

- 3 AC power outlets
- 2 USB outlets ONLY for charging (not data transfer) at 5V / 500mA at each port
- Surge protection on all 5 outlets
- 918 Joules Energy Dissipation
- 125V / 15A / 1,875W Continuous Duty Electrical Rating
- 36,000A Maximum Spike Current
- Lifetime Warranty on product
- USD75,0000.00 connected equipment warranty
- 360 degree rotating plug lockable into 4 possible positions

Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.

The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.

DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.

The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock.

Bought this for my spouse who:
A. Travels a fair bit
B. "Borrows" my USB phone chargers and then loses/breaks them.
I dread the day that she got the same cell phone type as I already had. Being somewhat obsessive about these things I had 4 AC chargers, in the bedroom, living room, home office, work office as well as 2 car chargers. The point was that I could always quickly and easily charge my phone.

She got one charger with her phone. Soon she lost or broke it. In sequence she would then take one of mine, misplace or break it, and then take the next one she found. Soon I had none.

I became dependent on chraging my Blackberry via USB attachment to computer, which had driver issues in Windows XP and was much slower than the dedicated charger. This does not exactly surprise me, given some understanding of the USB spec.

In short this looked like a reasonable standalone surge protector/USB charger for her to identify as unique, not lose, take with her on travels and also use to charge her phone. It accomplishes these objectives although the speed of charging a USB device is much more like charging from a Computer USB connection than it is from a dedicated and device specific AC USB charger. It is fine to give a touchup charge, and overnight maybe gives about a half charge to a blackberry but the dedicated BB charger would do that in 40 minutes.

Imagine you're travelling around Europe with your wife and teenage niece, bringing with you the following devices, and that the hotel you're in only has TWO accessible outlets (even after you've unplugged the lamp and TV):

ipod touch
ipad 2
blackberry phone
blackberry playbook tablet
2 android phones
android tablet
2 cameras, each with their own proprietary battery charger
---------
9 devices!

Now imagine that at least 4 of these devices can be charged in parallel from the same outlet (two via the USB ports, 2 or 3 more via the grounded 3-prong power ports). Imagine how happy your various fellow travellers - who depend on you for their tech support - will be to know their devices will have enough juice for the day ahead.

(Note that for high-drain devices like an ipad or Blackberry phone, the USB ports don't supply enough juice to charge. But a small AC-to-USB adapter allows you to use one of the 3 AC ports to charge via USB. Wherever possible, get an AC-to-USB adapter which has a high output rating, such as 1000mA, 1500mA or higher. 500mA is not enough.)

The unit worked great, but if you're planning on using the USB only part of the outlet, it's not strong enough to charge an iPad.

Apart from that, it's great.

This product seems to do what it says. The USB ports aren't powerful enough to charge an iPad, which is one of the two or three USB products I have to charge on the road. The surge protection I've not tested, but it gives peace of mind. The form factor is bigger and chunkier than I expected, but it's not too massive. Remember to retain the plug cover - it doubles as a support at the end of the charger which you'll need, because when you push plugs into the outlets the whole thing bends.

This item makes a high pitched noise. It'a not loud, but it's at a frequency that makes it audible over everything else. It can't be drowned out or ignored. It was really hard to track down what was making it, especially since who would suspect it was this? For awhile I even questioned whether I was imagining the noise but I'd only hear it in the room this item was in. Anyway, once I unplugged, the noise was gone. Plug it back in, the noise is instantly back.

Anyway, very, very annoying. I had to throw it out. I can't live with that sound in my home.
