Not the greatest video, but there is SOME merit

This is the first bellydance video I ever purchased. (I now take beginner classes, and have a variety of bellydance videos.)
Janine has gotten a pretty bad rap for this video, but I have to give it three stars-because there is some merit to watching it. The most common complaints are that she isn't a good dancer-she uses bad form and jerky movements on some of the moves, her students not knowing what they are doing, people don't like her choice of attire, or her makeup, etc., bad sound quality, and her husband's introduction. Eddie Rabbitt's gushy introduction was something that I could have done without seeing, but in this day and age-it is actually nice to know that there are still men out there who love and cherish their wives the way that Eddie loved Janine. A lot of reviewer's didn't like Janine's pink leotard-but style is a personal thing, and I didn't buy the video to view her practice attire. Her dancing skills are a little more novice than I like in a teacher, but she is a good communicator, friendly, and you can tell she really loves the dance. She DID do a good job showing basic veilwork and how to use zils, which a lot of videos do not cover. Someone made a rude comment about her grandmother being one of the veil students-but I think it is wonderful to show all ages and sizes in a dance class rather than all young and thin. The sound quality of the music could have been better, but I thought the background was nice and softly lit, with a beautiful hardwood floor. Her performance could have been better in the end, and she sometimes displays bad form or jerky movements, but her love for the dance and friendly way of teaching I like. If she were to put out another video with improved dance skills, I would welcome it. She has the love for the dance and a very friendly manner-with a little better dancing she would have a winner.

Terrible video for beginners

If this is the first exposure a beginning dancer has to bellydance, she will spend YEARS learning to undo all the bad habits and mistakes this video will teach her. The reviews who gave this 2 and 3 stars have obviously never taken a REAL bellydance class or seen a performance, because what this woman does is certainly not bellydance.

Horrid!

My friend bought this tape to help us keep up with our belly dancing practice between class sessions in the summer. It was atrocious! She was so stiff in her arms it looked more like she was doing the backstroke at times. And I agree that the husband's speech at the beginning did nothing to aid the tape. He truly sounded like a husband humoring his wife. As to the rest of it, it helped my friend and I by letting us see that even at 4 months of training, we were already light years ahead of someone who had put a video out! It was a confidence booster. I can't emphasize just how poorly done this tape is. Bad production value, bad timing, bad stretches, bad movements, and bad taste in costume! I sincerely hope she enjoyed making the tape and has continued to practice her dancing. Just can't get over how stiff her arms were!

waste of money just awful
This is the worst belly dance video on earth. I spent about 18 or 19 dollars or so on this video hoping to actually learn something but this video is just awful. Read more

not a good choice
Janine is just an ok dancer - she reminds me of a beginning student in her first performance. This tape is not one to learn from because her technique is stiff.
