5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful setting and good plot, Jan 25 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Beneath The Snow (Paperback)
This book's setting is the Alaskan wilderness. Two sisters search for each other in the midst of murder and a race to the patent office with a revolutionary new energy source. The characters are engaging and I had trouble putting this book down. I wish this author would continue this story line with the same characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change of location does Carver good, Mar 17 2011

This review is from: Beneath the Snow (Paperback)
After her first two books were set in Australia, Carver moves to Alaska for this mystery adventure. A whole new cast of characters from her initial efforts as well. Abby comes to Great White North to find out what has happened to her firebrand sister Lisa after she disappears. Since she lives in Great Britain, she has a hard time knowing which of the people she meets are her sisters friends and which are foes. A quickly plotted effort, but the characters are believable. I liked it more than her first two efforts, and I liked them a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Women rule, Aug 8 2006
By L. J. Roberts - Published on Amazon.com
Abby McCall is a garden architect living in the UK when she receives news her sister, Libby, has disappeared. Libby, a research scientist living in Alaska, has developed a device that could make her rich, or dead, if the people hunting her get their hands on it. In spite of a bitter estrangement, Abby battles the bitterness of the Alaskan winter, and memories of a romance gone badly, to rescue her sister.

It's nice to find an author who writes a solid action thriller in which both the protagonists and villains are strong, smart, yet realistic women. At the same time, they are not over-the-top, anti-men either. Elements of the plot were a bit over the top. The romance was somewhat unnecessary and, at times, annoying. Carver is no Stabenow but I definitely found myself quickly turning the pages through this non-stop read.
