As many have said before, the characters in this book lack depth and the plot is beyond predictable. I found myself feeling indifferent, not really caring about what happens to the characters in this book. Save your money for a book you'll want to continue reading past the first five pages...

I read this book, and the follow-up volume, "Debutante Divorcees" after I had read "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Everyone Worth Knowing" by Lauren Weisberger.This is the lightest, frothiest example of the Chick Lit genre, and I enjoyed it and read it in about a day and a half. My only complaint: by the time I got to the end, I never, ever wanted to read or hear the phrase "going to Rio" ever again. Note to Ms. Sykes: a couple of times is cute; by the time you've said it 20 times, it just gets damned annoying. For anyone who hasn't read it yet, I wouldn't be put off by customers' poor reviews. It obviously isn't meant to be great literature. Just devour it like the brain candy it is, and enjoy.

I absolutely adore this book. I think a lot of the people who gave it a bad review took it a little too literally and just didn't get it at all.Yes, it's about glamorously spoiled park avenue princesses, but I assure you it's highly entertaining--it's not just shallow fluff. It's very witty and satirical. It's fun and full of name-dropping and luxury brands, but there's a real comedic genius behind it. I actually really liked the narrator, "Moi," and was basically laughing throughout this entire book (right up to the end). It also definitely has a plot, and actually, a lot of heart. I've honestly never read a book like this (and I read a variety of books, most of which I have to admit, are chick-lit). It really stands on it's own. I just hope I like The Debutante Divorcee half as much.
