I've been making at least one loaf of bread a week and discovering new recipes, thanks to this great resource. A friend highly recommended I buy this book after having received my bread machine as a gift. I haven't bought a loaf of bread in over two months and my family and I have been enjoying healthful, preservative-free loaves ever since.

My favourite so far has got to be the Whole Wheat Flax Seed Bread (recipe on p. 181). (I replace 1 cup of the whole wheat flour with 1 cup of regular flour to make it a little less heavy - this is just a personal choice, not a critique on the recipe; this is actually one of the tips the authors provide on the same page as the recipe.) My toddler, husband and I ALL love this one. To be 100% honest, though, we've loved every loaf baked following the recipes in this book: the Oatmeal bread, the Yogurt and Wheat Germ, the Flax, Maple & Banana bread, the Whole Wheat bread. I'm looking forward to making some of the old grain (kamut, quinoa, etc.) and the seven grain breads.

I haven't tried making any of the pizza dough or the pastry-type breads or preservatives (yes! jams!) - mainly because I just don't have time. Did I mention I have a toddler? ;) One of these days, I will, though.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for bread machine owners. The recipes have been tested and retested using different bread machines, and the tips located in the margins beside the actual recipes are extremely helpful. Buy it - you won't regret it!

If you are Canadian, this is the ONLY bread book you ever need to have. Lots of recipes and very well organized. Best of all, the bread turns out great! Recipes are specific to loaf size, cycle and colour of loaf.

This book is a valuable resource for Canadians using bread machines, as American based recipes are based on a different type of flour. You will get consistently excellent results with this book. Breads that work, with lovely texture!
Lots of different options also

I've had this book for a couple of years now and keep using it over and over again. This is the one book where every single recipe comes out absolutely perfect every single time. I just keep on trying recipe after recipe. I highly recommend this book!

The biggest problem with this book is the measurements are all over the place. Early it says it used a 250ml cup size (metric) yet when you go to some of the recipes the metric conversion of the cup amounts don't match up. An example? A recipe calls for 1 2/3 cup of water and it says the mL conversion is 400mL. The problem is 1 2/3 cup of water is 416.67 mL. Then right on the same page it has 2 cups of water as 500 mL which is indeed true...yet looking at the 1 2/3 cup amount, anyone can see that the 400mL amount is wrong seeing as 1/3 cup is not 100 mL. Another example is in a recipe it calls for 1/4 of a cup of an ingredient and it says that is 50mL. Umm, what? Last I checked 50mL multiplied by 4 is 200mL which is 20% less than the 250mL cup size.

Then you get to the metric conversion for dry ingredients and the book absurdly uses mL so just another volume equivalent. Why aren't grams/weight used? Telling people 4 cups of flour (1000mL) is needed is hardly useful since the amount of flour in a cup can vary big time and could simply make the resulting loaf horrible if the flour got too packed when measuring. Giving a weight amount would be far more useful and accurate.

Basically for those of us who weigh our dry ingredients since we like consistent results, it is going to take some trial and error to see what the result comes out as since I have no idea what weight their dry ingredients like flour came out as when they created their recipes.

The manual that came with my Zoji bread machine has weights listed and my bread turns out great each time since there is no measurement variance.

I feel this book would have been much better if it had better accuracy.

I find this book (300 Best Canadian Bread Machine Recipes) to be

WELL worth the money I paid for it, especially considering the fact that I saved almost 50% by not buying it locally here in Barrie, Ontario. Quite easy to follow and full of good tips and guidance all through the book, makes my bread machine, that I had not used in some time, come back to life again.

Wonderful book, so many selections. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that I wish the nutritional info was available.
