5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice mix of humor, irony and the macabre Jun 28 1999

Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is an excellent way to be introduced to the work of pulp writer and mystery/science fiction author Fredric Brown. The collection here -- introduced by Robert Bloch -- nicely spans Brown's career and while heavy on the science fiction elements, still presents a fine selection of Brown's output. Mostly short stories and not a dog in the bunch!

FREDRIC BROWN
10-29-1906...3/11/1972. ODD LOOKING!

Wrote SiFi,fiction,humor,crime,TV plays,
fantasy and pulp mysteries. Didn't like
it when his name was spelled wrong.

He was an atheist, married 2x and had 2
sons.He had severe allergies and asthma.
These 2 illnesses would later kill him.

He was also an alcoholic,a small man and
compulsive story teller.

He is famous for the short story-I really
mean that..most stories were 500 to 1000
words long.

Also dark portents,sinister under currents,
outrageous word play, wit and made up words.
Endings with a twist.

He barely made a living writing..now his
works are very expensive and he is a cult
fave.

There are 29 works in this book--1940's to
the 1960's.

Just a few-a little boy who beats the devil
with a water pistol, earth invaded by mis
guided aliens,a geenie,puppets,sound, and
a knock.

You will enjoy all 29 reads, Most famous
for THE FABULOUS CLIPJOINT, THE SCREAMING
MIMI and NIGHT OF THE JABBERWOCK.

Please read and enjoy!

AMAZON HAS A NICE SELECTION OF HIS BOOKS!
Pretty good prices if you will look thru all the
selection pages.
